If my passport is expired and I didn't travel out of the states since I entered do they ask you for the passport still?

Yes! because CBP records vanished after certain years, and the IO basis is your passport even you did not travel.

Thank you so do I need to renew my passport ?!

I dont think you have to just for the purpose of interview for your N-400 since you mentioned you did not travel at all. Unless you have plans to travel in the future then yes you have to renew it.

I have compelted the interview, and everything went well.  I was pretty anxious going in, as this is pretty big deal, ut I was totally relaxed during the process, here's an overview of how things went:

-Came in right on time (15 min earlier) but the line to go into the office felt like a bad day at the airport (why do some people bring huge bags with them?)

-After intake I waited for 5-10 minutes while my number was called

-The officer came and picked me up and initiated some friendly small talk, likely testing english skills

-Went into the office and the officer put me under oath

-Reviewed current passport and GC to verify identity

-Did some Biometrics check and did the english skills test right away

-Went over any application updates, including adding some intl travel I did recently (mind you, it was already in their system)

-Reviewed some additional application questions that the online system had not included in the application

-Asked for some details on divorce and child support documentation

-Went over yes/no questions of the application

-Was approved and explained about the Oath ceremony and what timeline to expect going forward.

Overall very smooth and low key.  I'm glad this is almost over and that things are moving forward for most in this forum.  I wish you all well!

My guess is that it will be 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of April. They do one every month in the city hall (downtown SD). It is usually the 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of April (most likely the third one). It is a little late to be in March.

Best of luck!

Congrats to both!! I am also a San Diego filer. Do you guys mind sharing the details of the combo interview experience here too? Much appreciated!

Bring your spouse to interview and any additional evidence since you submitted I-751. For me they didn’t know I has I-751 pending until I told them. They made combo interview but they didn’t have my i751 case handy. I gave the officer tax returns and pictures of us. We asked how we met and questions about the pictures. Very straigforward. Then he said he will recommend approval of I-751 but he didn’t know where the case was. Regardless it got approved the next day.

after short i751 interview he asked my spouse to leave the room and then proceeded to N400 interview. Super easy if you memorize the 100 questions. The enlighs part was also super easy just read a sentence and write a word or two. Then he said he recommends approval but he needs to find my I-751 case first. I got scheduled on oath ceremony after a few weeks.

Best of luck!

edit: if you traveled after N400 application bring a document that says the dates and length of travel and the country you went. My officer appreciates all of that was organized since he needs to update any international travel

Hi Everyone!

Interview was an awful experience. Lady called my name. I stood up and I asked her if she wanted my wife to join me for the interview. She said no thats fine and asked me to follow her to her office. I then stood up and raised my hand and promised to tel lthe truth. There was another guy there. Im not sure what he was doing there but it looked like he was either learning or supervising the interview. if anyone knows who this second person is. please let me know haha! The first thing she said was "we cannot do anything with your N-400 because your I-751 is still pending" so i said yes i understand. I saw both my N-400 and I-751 on the table in front of her. In fact she had all the documents i had ever sent to USCIS.

This lady didnt seem friendly at all! quite rude aswell and so now all im thinking is (uuuuuuuuuuughghghg this process is going to take even longer now that shes not even gonna do anything with both N-400 and I-751). Then she made another comment on the I-751 saying like "im gonna get through this N-400 and MAYBE ill have time to look at the I-751 ... but its very unlikely". my blood was boiling lol!

She then went over basic questions about the N-400 just making sure everything was ok. whats your name? whats your address? asked me questions about my parents etc. etc.

Then out of nowhere she starts asking me civics questions. doesnt even transition with like "ok now we are going to do the testing portion of the interview. she just immediately started asking questions... i was thrown off a little because i had no idea it was coming. i was prepared to review the N-400 some more.

I cant remember all the questions but ill try remember some of them.. i got only 6 questions because i got them all right.

1. who wrote the federalist papers

2. who is your states governer

3. what is the capital of USA

4. how many senators are there

I cant remember 5 and 6. She then asked me to read.. "Which state has the largest population?" so i read that correctly. then she wanted me to write down "California has the largest population." and i got that correct too.

First they asked me about my selective services registration and so i handed that to her.

Then started asking me questions about me and my wife and how we met and started asking why we dont have kids yet and stuff. I was kind of irritated because these are kind of personal questions. anyway.. we go through that.

So the N-400 interview was over and she basically looked at the other guy and said "since the I-751 is pending i cannot recommend this for approval and so i may have to go over the I-751"

Then she asked.. is my wife outside. So i said yes. (weird why she asked if my wife was outside when i introduced myself saying my wife is outside in the waiting room..... anyway..

They asked me to bring her in so i did that.

So we walked back in together and she was asked to stand and raise her hand and promise to tell the truth. We went over the I-751 and asked her questions about how we met. talked about kids again..... and financial stuff. she then asked what type of evidence we submitted for the I-751 and so i just said like car insurance, health insurance, cerdit cards ... stuff like that. then i asked her if i can give her the latest evidence because we actually just updated all of that recently and so i handed her the new documents.

One thing that im kind of nervous for is that they asked my wife if she knew what removal of conditions were. my wife had no idea. which is crazy haha because we did the I-751 together so im not sure why she forgot! so they explained to her what it was. I just hope they dont think i filed a false I-751 document since she had no clue what it was. she does now tho and does remember it lol! When we did the I-751 i filled out all the paperwork and did everything and told my wife about everything and all we really needed her to do was sign it. they even went over the I-751 in the I-485 interview so yea .. i dono. i just hope they dont see an issue with that.

Anyway so that pretty much ended the interiew and she ended off with saying " wait for something in the mail " and she handed me a paper that said I passed the interview but they cannot recommend me for approval............

So now im discouraged.... now we sit and wait.

This is all i can remember for now. maybe after i submit this ill start remembering more. oh and one more thing! they didnt ask for passport photos. what happened was when i arrived, they ask for your two index fingers to scan and then they take a picture.

Thats all i can remembe. Please anyone chime in and let me know how long i could be waiting for an answer??

Thanks!
