My wife and I are flying down to London tomorrow as our interview is on Thursday. I was just checking over all the documents we need to take when I looked at the photo format specifications at the end of Packet 3. I've really been complacent as I've had two normal UK-sized passport photos ready for this purpose since my medical (I used one from the same batch for it too). Now I know that my photo is not the right size and I don't have time to change it! Does anyone know if they are extremely strict with the photo policy? If so what will happen?

Any Walgreens, CVS does passport photos quickly...about a 5-10 minute wait (I believe the cost is $6-8 for two of them). I don't know how much of a difficulty you will have if your photos are not the prescribed size, but as the size requirements of photos is listed somehere on the DOS' website, I would try very hard to make sure I have the right size photos. There was a discussion here on VJ a while back on whether the size of photos matters or not....and the way I understood was that at the petition stage it was not as important if the individual photos are not the US passport size, but that at the consulate/interview, this was something that becomes more of a stringent requirement.

Good luck on your upcoming interview.

Hi, thanks for the reply, we're flying down from Scotland, we don't have Walgreens or CVS here but I guess we could try one of the places on the list underneath the requirements.

Duh! I don't know why I misunderstood and thought you were flying from the US, to go to the interview (like you were visiting your SO here but heading back to the interview).

I seem to remember reading something about there being a place close to the UK consulate that takes quick passport size photos. You may want to look into that....and arrive even earlier for the interview to have the photos taken. Have you posted in the regional UK thread, maybe someone there can give you details. :)

We'll have a whole day before the interview to get it done so I guess I shouldn't panic too much. There's a place in Oxford Street on this list so I'm assuming that'll be the place you've read about, thanks. :)

vamos,

The consulates are generally quite strict about the photos - the photos you give them aren't just for attaching to the file copy of the visa application, they're for making the visa.

Most consulates have a nearby photo shop or 3 that can produce exactly what the consulate wants - it's lucrative business due to the many complacent visa applicants such as yourself.
