What are your thoughts on the TLC show "90 Day Fiancé"??

I'm surprised I haven't asked this before, but to other K-1 visa applicants, what are your thoughts on the show 90 day fiancé?!

I love to watch it because I think it's actually quite funny. But I think sometimes it gives not the most truthful view of the K-1 visa. Not everyone who files is crazy like the people on the show seem to be!

What are your thoughts?!:jest:

It makes the K-1 process look like it's nothing but drama, but hey it's a reality show that is supposed to be entertaining right? :P

You should come join the Season discussion thread, we discuss each episode there.

The above highlighted in bold is the MO of just about every reality show. Drama sells.

A few years ago the produces of 90Day Fiance used to solicit on this site. There was even a thread about it. Also, a few of the couples that have been on that show were also members here. Many members reported they would never participate. Now that the show has a big viewership, the producers don't have to hunt for "talent" so to speak.

To put it frankly, the producers pick the worse cases or cases that has some kind of drama. It is not that hard. There are some people in the world where all it takes is a 5 minute interview to know they make questionable decisions on life and relationships. VJ has been around for many years and there are thousands of successful stories of couples who did a K1 and are still married with no problems 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years later. Not to mention there is a lot of misinformation from experts or even lawyers on the show.

Take it for what it truly is... entertainment.

TV kills your brain cells. turn it off ;)

reality tv even more so.

that said, my guilty pleasure right now (when i catch it on) is 'say yes to the dress' but only cause i like to see the pretty dresses and wonder how people can spend that much on a one time use garment (or any garment, for that matter). what these people pay for dresses is more than what we are paying for our entire wedding and everything related to it, including immigration costs. lolololol

I think the show does nothing to educate a public who knows little about the immigration system or how it works. Fake entertainment as a replacement for what most us has have been through or see on this forum every day? Not a fair tradeoff imo.

Other than the fact that almost everyone always asks "is it like the TV show???" when they hear about my husband and I.... that's about all the opinion I have on it. lol

My husband has watched it, and I've caught some random episodes here and there over the years. I'm not totally invested, but what I have seen definitely proves it's for entertainment purposes only, and not so much for educational purposes.

Håll ut, y'all.

Exactly this. I watch it for the trainwrecks, but for factual information - hell no.  All the talking heads saying "now s/he's here we have 90 days to decide if we get married" like I'm sorry at what point of the FIANCE VISA process did you think you wouldn't actually get married?!

I have seen better on here.

one question pops into my mind .. why would you participate in televising your life? This is your life, not a dress rehearsal.

Ask John and Kate.  My dad used to love these reality shows, me not so much.  Sure, I have watched Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers and some others, but even that has the "reality drama" necessary for these shows.  It is one of my gripes relative to the History Channel when they went almost exclusively reality.  That said, I think I watched half of one episode, and it turned me off, and as others have said, there are better stories here.
