Congrats! We are still waiting. We are around a month after you so hopefully soon. What documents did they ask you to bring?

Hopefully you hear something by the end of the year! They are asking for new medicals, birth cert, passport, shared liabilities, pictures together, previous NOA documents from AP and/or EAD

I thought Birth Certificate, Passports and I-94 was all standard to bring? I am not marriage based though. The only thing I am concerned about is my petitioners (USC Mother) Birth Certificate but she wasn’t born in USA and that’s to prove that the petitioner is indeed a USC. We have her Certificate of Naturalization (N-550) and a valid U.S Passport. That should be good enough right?

I am confused about new medical. I thought that the official policy for K1 was that the medical done for the visa initially was enough as long as one filed for AOS within a year of that exam. We have the DS3025 with the shots and everything. There seems to be conflicting information as to whether K1 applicants really need to get a medical again or not.

Ours does not ask for the mothers certificate so I am not sure about that.

We spoke with a uscis associate and the rule is if you have been waiting over 1 yr after applying through a k1 visa, you must do a new medical.

I know because yours is not petitioned by your mother.

From the I-693 instructions.

A uscis associate told us that we had to redo our medical because it has been over 1 year since we applied for the green card.

Any updates?

We had our interview this morning.  It went very smoothly.  The field officer didn't approve it on the spot, but she said we have more than enough evidence and that she expects to approve it later today after reviewing everything (such as the medical information which was sealed.)  She did ask for the new medical exam, so I'm glad we got that done.

Because it's a marriage-based green card and we're still 4 months shy of our 2-year anniversary, she confirmed that we will need to wait 21 more months and then apply to have the conditions removed.  I almost wish that USCIS had waited 4 more months for the interview, but it's really a relief to have that interview finally completed after 19+ months of waiting.

Thank you for telling us! In what format did you bring the documents and evidence?

Except for the original government documents (passports, birth certificates, etc) I printed all the documents and other evidence (including about 50 photos) from my computer.  I grouped all the documents into categories like Relationship, Financials, USCIS Notices, Originals and Certified Copies, with a big legal envelope for each category to help me find things when requested.  The officer started by asking for some specific information that she needed (passports, birth certificates, marriage certificate, and drivers licenses/IDs).  Then, when she was finished with her initial checklist, she asked if we had any additional evidence to offer.  So then I laid out everything I had brought on her desk, and we went through the documents one by one. I had several documents to demonstrate we lived at the same address, a few to show combined finances (for example, I had a bank statement from our joint checking account - at this point, she said she didn't want to look at our finances, but she did ask to see our matching debit cards for the account, and we also showed matching credit cards and matching Costco cards).  She chose a few of those new documents and made photo copies of them for her records, then gave us back the originals. She also looked through all the photos and asked questions about a few of them, but she didn't keep or copy any of them.  She did keep our latest tax return but gave back all the other financial documents (mostly bank statements, etc) without making copies.

After going through all the evidence, she started the Q&A part of the interview.  She asked all the standard questions on the i-485 (are you a prostitute?  do you have any plans to overthrow the US government? etc), and then asked more open-ended questions about our relationship (what is your husband's birthday?  Where was he born? How did you meet?  Tell me about how you got engaged?  Did he get down on one knee?)  She directed questions to one of us at a time, but asked each of us specific yet open-ended questions.  There were some questions I couldn't answer...  For example, in my story about the proposal I told her that we got engaged at the place where two rivers joined, and so she asked for the names of the rivers.  But those rivers' names were too hard for me to pronounce when I learned them, so I didn't remember the names, just the name of the nearby city.  But that memory lapse didn't seem to be a problem.

At the end, she told us that she needs to review everything one last time, but that she expects to approve it by tomorrow unless she notices something missing in which case she will mail us a letter and we can respond back by mail.   Then she escorted us out of the building.

Great! My husband and I don't have joined bank accounts, do you think that they would see that as a problem?

What documents did they ask for and what questions?
