Hi, I have been searching for instructions on the actual filling out of form I-485 in connection with a K-1 visa...can anyone point to guidance similar to "This number comes from X"?

For instance, page 1 asks for A # (if any). Where would this A# come from specifically? Which document, and when would I have received it? Of course it says if any, but if it's something I have, I'd like to include it.

It also asks for the I-94 #--I am hoping that that is the Departure Number that is computer printed on the top of his I-94 (nine digits followed by two XXXXXXXXX XX), there is also a space for someone to have written it in, but it is blank on his.

On page 2, it asks for a NonImmigrant Visa Number. Is this the petition number (WAC-XX-XXX-XXXXX), the control number (14 numerical digits), or the 8 digit number in red on his US visa?

Why, oh why, does it have to be so confusing :-/ Or is it just me that's thick???

If this guidance already exists on this website, please be a doll and post a link...I'm stressing to the fullest here. Yeah, I know, no reason to stress, but sometimes this stuff does that to me.

Look on the back side of the I-94 card in the passport, the POE officer may have written it there, or look on the approval (NOA2), it should be above beneficiary's name SEE: http://www.visajourney.com/gallery/albums/...F-NOAs/NOA2.jpg

Yes the printed number on the I-94 card XXXXXXXXX XX

hey there, dont panic.. help is here.

first of all, the A# is the number in your us visa, located in your passport

the I-94 number# is the departure number in the top left corner of the I-94 in your passport. should be 9 digits

on page 2, the no immigrant visa number is your A#

hope this helps

yes, I have done that...the problem is that it doesn't tell you where the numbers actually come from.

As I said above, the I-94 number I have is in a slightly different format than what is on the sample form (instead of three followed by eight, I have nine followed by two. This puts me in doubt.

I do not know what form the A# comes from. At all.

The visa number in the sample is 8 digits, which leads me to believe the red number, also 8 digits, is correct, but I do not know for certain....

So the sample form, which I did review prior to posting, doesn't really help much...I think I need a hand-holder :(

Jaytal79 you got one right and 2 wrong

The A# is the alien registration number assigned by USCIS, and the Department of State wont print that in the visa, so is NOT  on the visa.

The non immigrant visa number is NOT  the A# it is the red number on the visa.

You did get the I-94 number correct.

jaytal and YuAndDan,

You're both wrong, and you're both right. Depends on the consulate - some consulates put the A# on the visa, in the notes section below the photo. Other consulates do not.

Yodrak

..... the A# is the number in your us visa, located in your passport

.....

.....

The A# is the alien registration number assigned by USCIS, and the Department of State wont print that in the visa, so is NOT on the visa.
