Hi everyone, after I got my oath ceremony, can I apply for a passport at a place where they do it in 24 hours?

Or do I have to do it through USPS and wait until they send it to me? Thanks.

Below I attached instructions for an expedited passport. My friend just had to do this because he didn't realize his passport was expiring within a month, and you need 6 months validity on the passport to enter most countries. He was 1 week away from our last trip to Thailand in March of this year. He had to go to his closest passport agency ( Indiana to Detroit, about 250 miles) file the forms with proof of his travel in the next week, pay the 60 dollar expedite fee, and next day delivery charges ( Around 16 bucks) and he had it within 3 days. The only way to get it in 24 hours is if you are stranded out of country, and need it to reenter the USA. And even then I think they just give you a form to get you in, then you have to replace your passport. So 24 hours isn't going to happen, I have seen 3 days, and that was with my friend in panic mode, calling off work, and making a day trip of it. If you do the basic expedite you should have it in a few weeks, but any faster you are going to have to prove immediate travel, or a immediate life and death situation.

I have urgent international travel plans.

Example: you're traveling overseas on June 22. Beginning June 1, you should schedule an appointment at a passport agency or center that is on June 8 or later. You can only go to the actual appointment within 2 weeks of international travel (or 4 weeks if you need a visa).

Less than 4-6 weeks (No reason needed) Expedited Expedite at an acceptance facility or expedite a renewal by mail
More than 4-6 weeks (No reason needed) Routine Apply at an acceptance facility or renew by mail

Expedite at a Passport Agency or Center

 Expedite at an Acceptance Facility

You must use Form DS-11 when applying at an acceptance facility. You cannot apply with Form DS-82 (Renew a Passport by Mail) at an acceptance facility.

  • Fill out your application and collect your documents. See How to Apply to find the right form for you.
  • Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information.
  • Find the acceptance facility nearest you to turn in your application and fees. Contact the facility before arriving to determine if an appointment is required.
  • The expedite fee does not include 1-2 Day Delivery. For optional faster shipping of your application, see 1-2 Day Delivery Service shipping below.

Expedite a Renewal by Mail

Form DS-82 must be mailed in. You cannot apply with Form DS-82 (Renew a Passport by Mail) at an acceptance facility. To find out if you are eligible to use Form DS-82, see Renew a Passport.

  • Fill out your application and collect your documents.
  • Be sure to include the $60 expedite fee in addition to the normal application fee. See Passport Fees for more information.
  • Clearly mark "EXPEDITE" on the outside of the envelope.
  • The expedite fee does not include 1-2 Day Delivery. For optional faster shipping of your application, see 1-2 Day Delivery Service shipping below.

1-2 Delivery Service (Optional)

You may choose to pay for a 1-2 Day Delivery service for your application.

  • If you are only applying for a passport card, we will send it to you via First Class Mail. We do not use 1-2 Day Delivery services for passport card only applications.
  • You may choose one or both of the following shipment options:
    • Delivery to us: Purchase 1-2 Day Delivery service at a post office or other passport acceptance facility for faster shipping of your application to us. The price for 1-2 Day Delivery service varies depending on the area of the country.
    • Return to you: Include the $15.89 1-2 Day Delivery service fee with your passport fee in your check or money order payable to the U.S. Department of State for faster return shipping.

As a note I do volunteer at some oath ceremonies ( I am doing one this Friday) and depending where you are they will have people at tables after the ceremony to help you register to vote, update your SS card, and they have a table to help you apply for your passport. So you may want to look into that. You can also get photos with the judge, etc. etc. Maybe it's just Vegas, but they make a pretty big thing out of it here.

I just called them. They can get it in 24 hours at a cost of 365 dollars, plus 170 for the actual passport, then 15 bucks for photos and I have to be in their office at 8:30 am tomorrow. If you're talking about the one on 35th Street I think it was. NYC. A little bit pricey, but if you have the money, go for it.

Yes I thought about that one, I work on 37th street,

I knew it was going to be pricey there, but in case you don't know, there is another place in Connecticut, it's a government passport center, so you don't have to pay those high fees, it's only $110 for the passport plus $60 for expedited, and you get it the same day... The requirements are that you have to make an appointment and present proof that you are traveling in less than 2 weeks.
