Lost Passport

Hi all,

 

I arrived in the USA two months ago on a K1 visa. I was married and immediately applied for my EAD and AOS documents. 

 

However! Last week, I was travelling domestically in the states and misplaced/lost my passport. 

 

Will this effect my EAD / AOS documents? Can anyone provide any advice/clarity of the steps I need to do from here on to ensure i don't run into further trouble?!?

Will it effect the EAD/AOS, no. However you do need some form of government ID. Are you getting a replacement passport or do you already have a State ID?

I will contact the consulate shortly to organise a replacement passport - obviously this won't have the k1 visa in it. Was ensuring I didn't require the visa moving forward.

The K1 visa was a one time use visa to enter the US, so it's worthless minus the sentimental value. The I-94 is what really matters, but that can be retrieve online.

Should I lodge a police report ? Incase I am questioned on it? Should I take any additional steps?

 

I am a bit paranoid losing it and what it might mean for my case (and the upcoming AOS interview).

 

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
