No, I am not a doctor. And yes, I am saying your doctor is wrong if he/she gave you 3 TDaP shots.

Thanks for pointing that out. I understand, but I don't fully trust this blanket WEBMD quote. I am not saying the above is wrong but I trust my doctors more.

Just to clarify and avoid misleading others here, I never said that people need to get 3 shots like me, i was only sharing my experience and relating that as to why OP's husband's doc *may* have said that it's better to get the TDAP shot here in the US. Of course people should make sure they consult a professional with their specific medical and vaccination needs.

I worked for a Public Health office for 10 years. We administered vaccines to people of all ages. TDaP was one of the immunizations we gave. It is not given to children and only given to adults once. Unfortunately, most doctors do not do a lot of research when it comes to vaccines. Yours obviously did not, IMO. I hope you did not suffer any adverse side effects. Best of luck to you in your journey.

@doggieandsam turned out to be correct! Paul heard back from the doctor in Sweden and he backed up the theory that it's due to the fact that TDAP is given in multiple vaccinations overtime, which is why he recommended having it done stateside.

That's great for people who did not have this done, and were able to fulfill these vaccinations prior to POE - it's not the end of the world for those who could not, just a minor frustration and little bit of a setback.

Thanks everyone for the input and advice! Hopefully we will get this out of the way sooner rather than later. We're dealing with SSN complications now, which is another story.

If he needs to get a TDaP,  he can go to the local public health office. They give them there and normally there is no charge. If he does go to the public health office, I would be curious to know how many “booster” shots they give. My bet would be one and only one. Just trying to spare you some money and pain of immunizations. Good luck 😉...

Hmm I didn't think of that. I've heard of some places requiring certain shots being administered over a period of time, instead of all at once. But yeah - the real confusion came from other Swedes having no issue completing their record with similar backgrounds.

We may never know, or may not know until he visits a US civil surgeon. lol

Hopefully, the US civil surgeon follows the CDC’s recommendations!  :jest:

Visa vaccination requirements are not the same as AOS requirements. The vaccinations at the interview level are merely a suggestion and not mandatory. For AOS you are required to show them. If you have a valid vaccinations form, whether or not it’s complete, and by valid I mean within a year, you find a USCIS doctor who can give you those boosts and finish the form. You are not required to submit the medical form when you first file for AOS, but you’ll be asked at the interview. There’s no way around it, you just have to complete it. It should be fairly easy though. Just find a USCIS doctor and make an appointment and don’t forget to bring that form so they can finish it.

Revisiting this topic, as we are now moving  through the AOS process. Paul's case status changed yesterday to "Ready to be scheduled for interview" - we kind of expected a RFE for this medical/vaccination business, but looks like he may possibly not get one. Based on the advise you gave me here back in June, I'm assuming we could go ahead and visit a US civil surgeon to complete his vaccination record and administer any remaining boosters before his interview comes along - would that be an accurate assumption?

Nice to also see a fellow NC couple! :)

Please share how it turned out, if you don't mind, and if further clarification isn't provided before then. I feel like we should go ahead and have him see someone here to complete his record and provide any remaining shots he may need, but the only hesitation we have is doing that, and then getting to the interview and either we did it wrong somehow or they want us to do it over again for some reason.

Håll ut, y'all.

Ok so I had my appointment with the civil surgeon.

My DS3025 said that I had chosen to defer vaccinations at this time however I wasn't entirely sure what I was missing. All of the immunizations on the I-693 form could be covered by our health insurance so I just made an appointment with our doctor. They looked through the DS3025 and the only shot they said it appeared I didn't have was the Tdap so they gave me that shot on Tuesday. Everything else on my DS3025 either was marked A or had been ticked off.

I went to see a civil surgeon today here in NC and I did not even have to see him. I handed over my DS3025, passport, I693 form and proof of the Tdap shot from Tuesday. Then waited for around 10 minutes and was told that it would be a $50 charge for his sign off of my immunizations and I could collect them in a weeks time. No physical needed or extra shots. Hope that all makes sense!

Thank you! That is super helpful. I think we will go ahead and see someone about completing my husband's while we wait, like you did. Sounds like yours was exactly like his - his DS3025 was only missing the TDAP (he had DTAP, but I know one is administered at childhood and one at adulthood), and the doc labeled his the same (opted to defer vaccinations at the time exam was complete). We have a doctor's office in the town we live in listed on the USCIS website for civil surgeons, so we will probably go there. Fortunately he's covered under my health insurance already so hopefully it won't be a huge cost for us, either.

Thank you so much for sharing! It definitely alleviates some uncertainty! :)

I would definitely recommend getting any shots at your doctors office before as I don't think you can use your insurance for the civil surgeon to sign off your I-693 :)
