AOS Submission Requirements - DS-3025 NOT marked complete - missing immunizations?

We submitted the medical with the AOS. It was last June and therefore a year. So, if we get called for an interview, I assume we will need a new medical. If we don’t get called for an interview, we do not need one, right?

He sent an email to Dr. Einar yesterday afternoon - he hasn't heard back yet. We do feel better getting some affirmation from others that it doesn't seem like it'll be a big deal in the long run - the vaccination record being complete, whether the box is checked or not, seems to essentially be what matters. Even the USCIS website states doctors often check the wrong thing (or not at all), so officers *should* pay more attention to the content rather than which box is checked. Fingers crossed. haha

Which leads me to wonder... if we don't submit our medical info with the AOS application, and state it's pending... and then it takes over a year for us also.. will a new medical be needed then since we didn't submit the medical info originally? Wonder if it's worth it to try and get to a civil surgeon here before submitting anything to see about completing his vaccination record, or at least having it transcribed so it shows it's been confirmed by a US CS.

Yes, the only mystery is the box ticked. It will be interesting to hear back from Dr. Einar as to why he checked the "electing not to be vaccinated" box when Paul did elect to be vaccinated in the very same appointment. The only thing I could think of is, was Paul given the flu shot? After all, it was flu season, because his medical was in February if I remember correctly. Or was it waived because it was the end of flu season?

• MMR (two are required but if you have "insufficient time interval" Code B in the last column, then you get a waiver)
• Td or Tdap or DT or DTP or DtaP (One date must be no longer than 10 years ago)
• Varicella (Either a check by "Vaccine" with a date, OR a check by "Varicella History" if you had chickenpox. History gets you a waiver)
• Influenza (during flu season)** see note below because you may be okay without it. If it is not flu season, the waiver in the last column is Code F.
• Everything else marked "not age appropriate" Code A, insufficient time interval B, not flu season F, contraindicated C...things that allow a waiver.

NOTE: If you have shots missing and no waiver for them, stop here and see a Civil Surgeon. "Most of the shots" isn't complete. A note from your home country doctor won't count. All shots must be recorded on the DS-3025 or waived. You will have to take your doctor note to a Civil Surgeon and get him to record it on an official form.

 

**Note on flu shot: Flu shots are required for adults of all ages if your visa exam was between (Oct 1 and March 31). But if the AOS adjudicator picks up your case when it is not flu season, you will be excused. And the reverse is true. The adjudicator picks up your case during flu season, but sees it was NOT flu season when you had your medical exam, you are also excused because the date they go by is the date of your visa exam to determine if you were current on that date. Keep in mind that if you go to a civil surgeon for an I-693, then you are resetting the medical exam date for immunizations and you may have to get second doses of shots or a flu shot to become current on your new immunization date of record.

Oh that's true, I forget they've already been provided a copy of his medical just like he was.

 

He got the flu shot too - influenza is one of the ones already checked off on his. I wondered the same initially.

@LizM .... I feel so stupid... but I think I just figured it out.

 

I didn't notice this before, because I figured as long as anything is checked as completed in each section that means it's good... but there is one difference between your record and Paul's.

 

Up top under "Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis", you have both DTAP and TDAP vaccinations checked off. Paul only has DTAP, not TDAP. I thought as long as one is done, that means that section is complete.

 

One of my friends is a nurse and I was talking about it with her this morning and she looked at Paul's record. She said DTAP vaccinations are childhood vaccines, and TDAP is adult. So they may want him to get the TDAP as an adult. I notice it looks like your TDAP is the one you got during your medical. So I think that might be it!

Yes, that part is still a mystery. Paul said all he told him was "it'd be easier" to get it done in the states. I feel like it'd have been easier (and yes, cheaper - because now we're working with US health insurance/coverage). That part still boggles me.

maybe i can shed some light into why "it's be easier to get it done in the states". for me TDAP was 3 shots in total spread over 6 months. so maybe your doc thought it would be easier to have one doc administer all of them in the US (instead getting one in sweden and then the rest in the US)?

maybe sweden's version is different then, in that you can get an all-in-one TDAP shot there? my doc in the UAE said when i did mine, that i needed to get 2 more "booster shots" after the first one.

Hmm I didn't think of that. I've heard of some places requiring certain shots being administered over a period of time, instead of all at once. But yeah - the real confusion came from other Swedes having no issue completing their record with similar backgrounds.

 

We may never know, or may not know until he visits a US civil surgeon.  lol

Good thing we don't have to get it done before submitting AOS, if this is the case and is something that would span a few months to take care of.

If they’re missing something, they’ll let you know what it is either by RFE or at the interview. If they want a new medical they’ll tell you at the interview and your approval will just be pending the medical. They won’t deny based on pending documentation. You should be fine

TDaP is not 3 shots given over 6 months. It is one shot (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) given once every 10 years. No medical professional would ever give 3 TDaP shots in a 6 month period.

i did! i had the first one in in july, then a booster shot in aug 2017 and then another booster shot in feb 2018. do you mean to say that my doctor was wrong? are you a doctor?

 

the third one was given by a doctor here too, after checking my vaccination record and seeing the notes there. the doctor never said anything to say that getting 3 shots in total was not right?!

No, I am not a doctor. And yes, I am saying your doctor is wrong if he/she gave you 3 TDaP shots.
