06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Swimsuit competition would be the only reason I can think of for watching.

Does Miss America control the the State-level competitions? 

 

If not, are they all making the switch"? What Miss America does wouldn't really matter if the 50 women they are given all come from competitions where they competed in swim suits. 

 

It's great that they want to do this but honestly their viewership will plummet. If it becomes just a "talent/intelligence" competition, there are others out there and I just don't see people caring much.

I see what you're trying to do there. It's cute.

 

We are talking about the future, so obviously I don't have any "research" to back up what will happen in the future. It doesn't need to be clearly specified that it is speculative. Miss America hasn't done this yet, so there is no data we can draw upon.

The next Miss America pageant has not happened yet, but somehow we know what the rules are. How is that possible ?

That's why I was wondering whether the State competitions are going to change as well.

 

If they remain the way they are, then the pool from which to pick from at Miss America will remain the same - Primarily based on attractiveness. 

 

This kind of change has to be from the bottom up. Whatever regional competition gets these girl's into the running need to make the same changes so that the "top contestants" are already selected for being intelligent and talented.

actually its an good question. I am pretty sure the feeder pageants are controlled by the Miss america pageant and the rules will affect all pageants. 

I probably weave out of my entrenched middle of the road position on this one, and weave left. I find the concept of judging women in swimsuits in a mainstream activity a bit dated and a little degrading.

I agree with you. I'm glad they are making the change, but the reality may end up being that it makes them no longer relevant. If there are other competitions that people enjoy watching more (America's Got Talent, or something similar), they'll lose their "Attractive women in bathing suits" edge.

 

I guess they'll still have the "Charitable causes" spin, compared to competitions that mostly benefit the competitor. Will viewers really care that much though?

Thankful that you did not ditch roll today. It's hard to find a good gif when I'm busy. :P

 

Personally find the whole beauty pageant thing stupid and based upon a very outdated model that is not representative of American women and what it means. It has also done very little for funding scholarships for women. Stop ogling some airhead lady on the tv and go ogle your wives! :P
