Folks,

My husband works for DHS-USCIS. He has informed me that there have been a massive number of lay-offs in all departments of USCIS in the past few weeks.

I would suspect this would cause more delays for processing.

Let's hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

We've seen November I-129F process be pretty abyssmal over the last month, maybe this is partly why...

You're originally from Bangladesh? and you and your husband reside in Virgina? and yet he knows of these lay offs in Texas and California?

I'm unsure about the status of those that have been let go. My thought was the same that since they're self-funded, why the "budget" reason was given. Like I said, the response is most likely a curtain response and there's more going on than we know. Given how slow things are anyway, I wouldn't be surprised though if any of this does have an impact on those that are currently waiting this process.

Your husband doesn't know know if these lay offs are contractors or government employees or both?

My take on all of this is, perhaps, with less workers=less petitions being processed=less immigrants coming in.

I could very well be looking at it all wrong, but that's my thinking as to why the sudden number of lay-offs are really happening.,

Your theory, or rather a "conspiracy", is for the back log to increase, taking a longer period of time for approvals, Immigrants take notice and become discouraged, so they don't file,  And its because Government wants less immigrants coming in? sounds like something I would hear on CNN.

If you sense that I'm skeptical, you sensed right.

I really think you are grasping at straws here and just "heard"  about something and don't actually know the facts at all. You know what this is called? It is called Gossip because you are just repeated what you heard but don't know the facts. So until you know the facts please hold off from saying something.

If they are laying all these people off, why do they have 64 job postings on their website, with a good chunk of them being processing official, clerk, etc. Some high end director position to. I'm sending over my resume now. Maybe I can get hired at the CSC, find my petition, approve it, then put in my two weeks notice. LOL

I know that the USCIS is hiring right now because I applied for a Telecommunications Specialist job that they had open a couple months back. So I am waiting to see if I have been selected or if they want to interview at all right now.

Why isn’t there no article or news about this? With a thousands of immigrants coming in to the states they uscis should be very rich by now. I just say they’re like turtle. They’re slow some of them. But lay off umm it should be on the news by now

I would doubt the fees we pay really fund 100% of the cost/labor involved for each case. I am not saying your husband is incorrect in his information as he is there seeing things in real-time. Like others, I was not able to find any definitive reports of this. There were several reports of some of there processes going paperless.  I guess we might have to look a for a change if process times to come.

My husband and family are from there. Why is that even relevant? I never said anything about Texas or California. My husband works at the Maryland branch and this is where it's happening. Some of his close colleagues have been laid off (I'm sure he knows the status of those colleagues but not everyone's and I didn't ask). He's upset that his colleagues have lost their jobs and plenty of others. And you think this is a conspiracy theory? LOL. I simply said this was MY thinking that it will increase delays but that never stopped anyone from applying. Be skeptical, it doesn't make a difference to me or anyone else because I simply shared information from inside the scenes that I thought was worth discussing.

I used this site for everything when I applied for my spouse, people were nicer back then. Who invited all these know-it-alls nowadays?

It's not heard, and please read my above reply. I also said I do not know all the facts, I shared what I DO know. It's not gossip, it's called sharing information I would like to discuss. After all, isn't that what a forum is for? I normally agree with you Cyber, but kind of disappointed today at your response.

Thanks for stopping in, folks.

Ok, you never said anything about where the layoffs were happening at all you just said "I had heard that they are doing massive layoffs across all departments"  then preceded to offer no proof to that at all. I am always skeptical of what I hear from people about "they heard" due to my wife and how prevalent this is in the Philippine culture. I agree that sharing information is key to helping each other but next time if you don't have actual news sources then say something like "Hey my husband who works in the Mid-Atlantic part of the USCIS is saying that there are massive layoffs coming" This way there are facts but keeps your husband safe.

So sorry I am a little worked up and it isn't your fault, so I apologize to you for coming off a bit off.

No worries. I didn't take it personally.

I was trying to give info without disclosing too much because my husband does still work there, you know.  What I meant by departments, is departments within that location of the branch (you know like how there's the departments doing field services, IT services, processing, etc.) in one building.

And it is a lot of people being laid off which has put my husband on alert too because it's a big number of people gone. The reason my husband also knows about other places laying off is because his superiors held a meeting for it and discussed it.

As for the whole "news" outlets not covering this, well I can't tell you why they aren't, but there must be plenty of things that go on but it isn't covered by the news or is covered up and not disclosed to the public.

I don't mean to create panic or scare anyone, I'm actually concerned why the sudden lay-offs are even happening.

I am on the other hand grateful for this information and I am aware that this is only coming from your husband. I do not base my hope or expectations in your statement. Thank you for sharing! I think it is very interesting information and we will see what will happen. Let's hope for the best that it will not influence our applications. :)

Thank you.

This is what I was hoping for, a discussion and I thought it would be good to share.

I said earlier that I THINK this may have something to do with immigration reform since that was MY reasoning and hoped it would NOT affect petitions, but some people on here turned into a fest of "hearsay", where I'm from or my husband is from and such and such (which by the way is laughable since this IS a site for immigration).

Ladies/Gents, I want to make something clear. I'm not new to this site, I've used it for over 6 years and still follow immigration updates now. I try my best to help others when I can and if I don't know how to help, I stay out of it and let the experts help. I have been through this entire process from start to finish for my spouse so I know what it's like, I get all the frustration. However, this does not entitle anyone to be rude or condescending towards me, my husband, or my family.

This information I shared with you isn't something that just happened right now, it started over 1.5 months ago and is still continuing which is what alarmed me and I thought to share.  If you think it's fake or don't want to believe, that's fine, no one needs to.  Let's try to keep it civilized though.

Thanks.

I completely understand as well since I am a Federal employee as well. But I will have to ask around at a couple of people I know who work with USCIS right now to see if they have heard anything about it being a possibility of a wider layoff than just in that office.

Also it is kinda disconcerting because like I said I am trying to get hired on by the USCIS myself so this kinda sucks.
