I am self employed and want to know about the item in the checklist for the AOS interview that says they want letters from each employer verifying current rate of pay and average weekley hours, pay stubs for the past 2 months. Can any self employed person who has been through the interview tell me what they brought?

Thanks

Suzanne and Gary,

They brought evidence of being self-employed and evidence of their personal income (which is not the income of their business, even though it is derived from the income of their business).

My buisness is pretty simple so I don't have contracts, My tax forms are professionally prepared isn't that evidence enough? I have a buisness card and a city buisness tax document that shows I pay a buisness tax. Is that enough? Do I need to bring invoices? I suppose this is the same stuff they wanted in the AOS application package, but our interview is June 6th so am getting worked up again.

We had our interview recently and brought copies of everything we sent with our application--plus some mail my husband rec'd at our address and lots of photos. The only things the interviewer asked to see were the photos and mail--he took copies of a couple bank statements and two pieces of junk mail addressed to my husband. That's it.

I brought pay stubs (I'm not self employed) and tax returns, but did not have to show them at the interview.

What photos? We didn't have a big wedding, just one pic from city hall.

I only have a couple of pics from our civil wedding too, as I am sure many others do. Just focus on showing evidence of co-habitation- bills, insurance, personal mail, Costco memberships, Blockbuster cards, etc in both of your names. Also- pictures don't have to be from the wedding exclusively. They can be pics with family, friends, and generally around the home. Just make sure you're both in them!

Good luck!

I am self-employed but I issue myself a paycheck every month. Can you bring copies of your company checks routinely deposited into your personal account on a regular basis? (I doubt they would ask for it but if you really just want to make yourself feel better that could help.)

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.

Suzanne and Gary,

It sounds pretty good to me, but I cannot guarantee you that it will be enough even if I could inspect the documentation that you will present.

Singers' suggestion sounds good also, if you've had the discipline to pay yourself from your business in a regular and well documented manner.

I am self employed and went to a succesful interview Monday. Bring as many check stubs with you as you can. Recent ones are better, but any showing a regular income. Also any W2s or 1099s(if you get any)...bring at least three years worth.

I've got cancelled checks made out to me so I guess I'll bring those. I have a gardening buisness so I do the work and people write me checks. no sophisticated check writing system here. The photo info helps. I'll have to take some pics of us with family then. I have our marriage photo as you can see it's on my profile, but don't see why you need it when I have the marriage cert.
