Hi friends, my mom's case is still at NVC. How easy or hard is it to get a slot in CFO Manila? How long does it take? How long is the wait after the reservation? I will travel with mom back to the US with two toddlers in tow so I plan to fly to LA to get her passport endorsed, spend a night and then fly to Vancouver the next day and stay there for a few days then fly to OK? Will she have no problems getting back? Her stamp should be good, shouldn't it? Thanks.

How old is your mom?  Those above a certain age do not need to attend the PDOS seminar at CFO, they only need to register and obtain the sticker after having the passport w/visa (which takes less than an hour and no appt needed)

If under 60 attending the PDOS seminar is required.  Scheduling for the PDOS seminar can not be done until after having the passport w/visa in hand.

Hi friends, my mom's case is still at NVC. How easy or hard is it to get a slot in CFO Manila? Depends on their workload. If you are expecting next day service, I doubt that will work. Clark and Cebu are a little less daunting then Manila.

How long does it take? Once inside and processing about 1-2 hours usually shorter as I am assuming she is over 60 so like Hank said she only needs to register.

How long is the wait after the reservation? Again, it depends on how busy they are. You'll find out more of this when you make her appointment.

I will travel with mom back to the US with two toddlers in tow so I plan to fly to LA to get her passport endorsed, spend a night and then fly to Vancouver the next day and stay there for a few days then fly to OK? I believe you meant to say that LA will be your POE then onward to Vancouver. She will need a visa to travel to Canada as she is a Filipino and that is a requirement. If she is a USC or a GC holder no problem but it sounds' like she is not.

Will she have no problems getting back? No she won't have a problem getting back because she will not be able to go into Canada as a Filipino.

Her stamp should be good, shouldn't it? No for all the reasons stated above.

Thanks.

Those granted immigrant visas receive the I-551 stamp in their passport at POE ... this "green card" stamp is valid for one year.

The physical green card  arrived later, as long as they paid the ELIS fee.

Sorry I did not respond to your complete posting, got "lost" in the CFO stuff...

Upon arrival in the USA at POE your mother will receive an I-551 stamp in her passport, this is a "green card" valid for one year.   She will have no issue entering Canada (ok they may take her aside to verify the I-551 stamp, but after that entry to Canada isn't an issue.   Returning to the USA will not be an issue either.

Do make sure to pay the ELIS fee, paying before POE will speed up the (physical)  green card production.

That is one of the perks of an immigrant visa, green card on entry.  And their citizenship clock starts ticking at entry also, which now a days can shorten the time by almost a year

Doesn't the endorsed visa on your passport serve as a GC until you receive the physical card on the mail and thus allow you to travel at least to North America without a visa? Yes, I meant LAX will be my POE and then fly to Vancouver the next day.

She is only 52 so I think she is not exempted.

You think correctly.

Once the passport with visa is in hand, then you can schedule CFO  PDOS seminar.

Yes that's correct that the endorsed (I-155 stamp) passport will serve as her GC. I hadn't forgotten about the I-155 stamp until Hank reminded me.
