My fiance and I are planning on doing a courthouse marriage to get married within the 90 days and start his AOS. Then a few months later we are planning a church wedding with family and friends,  so the big wedding can be more relaxed for us. Do you recommend that we should tell them about the courthouse wedding if we get asked about our wedding plans? Will it affect anything?

Your AOS will be based on the courthouse wedding. 

 

About who to tell whether you have had a courthouse wedding, that's up to you. It will not affect your AOS.

I was just wondering if they will see our marriage as legit if we have a courthouse wedding.  We are basically doing that forthe paperwork. I do have lots of information and pictures to back up our 3 year relationship.

They do not care whether you have a courthouse wedding, or hold it in the Vatican City State's Sistine Chapel,  officiated by Pope Francis. Your chances will remain the same.

They don't care if you got married in Vegas by Elvis or in a grand chapel in Rome. They just need 1) a legal marriage + documentation, and 2) evidence of a bona fide marriage.

For #2, a wedding ceremony is not critical. They will base their decision upon the totality of evidence you provide them. The wedding itself is not important, just the marriage.

I am sorry for all the comments, but to be fair....you left out the fact that you are doing a k-1 visa and other important information to who are THEY and which interview? Interview for k-1 or for AOS. Try to be more specific so you don't get all kinds of confusing messages

long story short, no one cares who marries you or where or even when, as long as its within K1 guidelines. Wedding certificates do not give the details of the wedding, only the date and other pertinent information.

 

whether your not you tell your wedding GUESTS that you are already married, is up to you and the govt certainly doesn't care, nor will they even KNOW about it, unless you tell them during AOS, and even then... they wont care (MANY people do a courthouse wedding to get the legalities take care of and then a traditional wedding with family and friends- they see it every day). just remember, its the date of the LEGAL wedding that you will go by. not the pretty dress and party date.
