Can I fill out the DS-160 now and pay or do I have to wait for the embassy to send me the Package?

The DS - 160 is a document that stands alone. It does not affect anything. It does not need to be finished to do anything else EXCEPT the interview and it can be completed between now and the day before your interview. You can't use it to find any information about your case. You can't use if for anything other than for its original intent and that is for the CO to use during your interview to adjudicate your case. Yes the DS-160 can be finished now or now and the interview.  Your choice.

Do you have your case number? Which Embassy are you using Guangzhou or Hong Kong?

I just called the NVC, and they said our case arrived today, but they have not given us a new case number yet. Does anybody who has been through this step know how long it's currently taking from the NVC received date to when the new case number is assigned? The man I spoke with on the phone said it could be up to 8 weeks (as they always seem to say), but I'm obviously hoping for sooner! I plan to call again tomorrow just to see.

For anyone wondering, our NOA2 date was June 14th, so it took about 18 days for our case to arrive at the NVC. Hopefully that information will be helpful! I don't know if it gives us much insight into how long it's generally taking these days, but that was our experience, anyway!

Yes I do it Guangzhou China

This comes from US Embassy Guangzhou China and it states: An individual with an approved petition and a priority date* that is current for processing (when applicable) is eligible to apply for an immigrant visa or K nonimmigrant visa. Immigrant visa applicants will be notified by either the National Visa Center (NVC) or the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou when it is time to schedule an interview. K visa applicants will be notified by the U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou when it is time to schedule an interview.

So basically you will need to wait until your file is sent to the Embassy and the Embassy contacts you. You have a longer wait ahead.

It's been taking about 2-4 weeks to get the case number assigned. I would wait 10 business days (not including holidays) and begin calling for your case number.

They may not have your calendar open from Oct and beyond. Some Embassy's only show the current month and possibly the next month. Your's shows more than most. As far as setting appointment, you can go ahead and set for something in August if you think you are close to receiving your case number. You are allowed to cancel your appointment up to twice without penalty so if you need to cancel no harm done. You can do your DS-160 anytime. So if you feel the need to complete now, there is no harm in doing so.

So I called the consulate here in Bermuda, they said they do appointments differently with K1 Visas, they said it's a different appointment schedule and not the one reflecting on their website. They gave me an email address to inquire. Is this unusual???

Again, I cannot speak on Bermuda so I'd suggest you get in that portal and ask some of your fellow country men, but I can say is that the US consulate Montreal's website does not reflect the K1 procedure AT ALL. We cannot follow it nor move forward without explicit instruction from them.

I'd suggest you'd enquire both with them and in your country sub forum.

How long can the case sit at the NVC before they require additional documents like a letter of intent from me? My fiance is trying to get his police record done, but his work has caused a delay in him being able to get it done. He does not have a scanner and will have to post everything to ACRO.
