Congratulations for your success.

I have a question. My I-751 is pending and N-400 is also pending. Generally, they send interview letter and doesn’t mention whom it for or they take combine I-751 and N-400 interview. For N-400, What are the list of:

A: Original Documents

B: List of photocopy documents

Have to bring.

I applied on September 2017 for N-400 so can I bring the remaining supporting documents like Joint bask statements, Joint Credit card statements etc.

Thanks

I would just bring IDs and birth certificate. Now is not the time to bring supporting bonafide materials. If there was ever a need for them, they would have asked for an RFE. Dont sweat it. Just bring your wife or husband to the interview

I know!! It's painful! Do you know whether anyone has received interview letter from California so far?

Oops.  I thought I answered this.  As far as I know for the SFV, only one of us has gotten an interview, but it was for the pending I-751, and they DIDN'T combine her interviews! 😒

My interview has been scheduled.

Letter date Dec-13-2018, Interview Date Jan-24-2019

Had my interview today at the Fairfax VA field office.  I applied under the 5-year rule.  The whole affair was smooth as silk.  Interview was at 11am but I arrived early around 10am.  Security check took around 10min.  After the initial check, I went to the N400 waiting area.  The receptionist there asked me to give him my appointment letter but then asked me to come back to him closer to my interview time.  I went to him again at 10.45, he took my appointment letter and asked me to wait.  Just before 11 I was called.

The interview took around 15min.

- Asked for my passport and green card

- Took photo and fingerprints (both index fingers)
- Civics test

- Reading and Writing test

- Some "no" questions from the form which weren't properly reflected in the online fill-in form for some reason. (Were you a member of the Nazi party LOL)
- A few minutes on a long-ago 1-day arrest in a matrimonial dispute back in India (it was a fake case, no charges filed and was dismissed)
- Approved

No documents (tax, etc.) were asked for.

Unfortunately, while I was hoping for a same-day oath ceremony, the officer said the oath letter will come in the mail and might take up to 2 months.  He said same-day oath is rare and is randomly chosen by the machine in the morning.  I asked him if there was a way to get it scheduled today or sooner as I have to travel next month.  He expressed his inability.  But never mind.

He gave me a letter saying I had passed the civics and language tests and that my case was approved and that I should wait for the oath appointment letter in the mail.

I was out of the USCIS office at 11.20am.

For the SFV (Chatsworth office, Los Angeles) people:

My husband and stepson had an infopass in LA (Chatsworth office: SFV) today:  Husband and stepson got there about an hour early.  Then waited more than an hour after their scheduled appt times to be called back.  My stepson went first, which I thought was weird, since he's a minor.  Green card was confiscated; he got a I-551 stamp in his passport that's good until 1/27/2020.  Same with husband.  While there, he noticed that all the N-400 people were being called first and finishing very quickly.  He asked a woman when she filed for hers and she said, "January 2018."

While with his officer, he asked about the progress on his case, since processing times are showing May 8th for the CSC, and his NOA1 is dated May 3rd.  She basically told him that the I-751 takes the longest: 22.5-41.5 months!  She was basing this on estimated processing times for "all field offices."  So NO HELP at all.  For now, we're satisfied with the outcome.  There won't be issues leaving or entering the US in April when we all go to Costa Rica!  But this wait is ridiculous.  Maybe before this stamp expires, he'll be a citizen.  Dare to dream...

Had my interview today, it was a combo interview for my I-751 and N-400. Combined it took roughly 20 minutes for everything including reading, writing, and civics tests...super chill and almost anti-climactic haha. She approved the I-751 first and then recommended me for approval for the N-400, now just have to wait for the oath letter. If someone could please update my timeline I would be very grateful!

Congratulations!! Could you share few more details about the interview

Sure this is how my interview went at the Newark, NJ field office where they do same-day oath's. My interview was scheduled for 10a.

I took a cab to to the office around 9:15a - arrived a little bit after 9:35a. I was hoping to get right into the building but there were two large security lines on both sides of the building (on the Walnut St side). Seems like this is a new thing at the field office - because of a security incident. By the time I was in the building - it was 10:05a but from what I could tell everyone was late to their appointments so I knew it was going to be a long day. They don't check your invitation letter at security but expect a TSA style security with 2 people manning one gate so it was pretty slow and overdone honestly.

Once I was through security, I headed to the elevators to take it to the 15th Floor (per my interview letter). I showed my interview letter to the guard there and I was told to go to Window 2. The waiting room there is basically 8 glass windows and 3 doors. The doors are used to bring people in for their interviews and the windows are used for administrative things like signing your Naturalization certificate, giving you a flag and the white envelope with more information on your rights and responsibilities as a US citizen.

The person behind Window 2 took my letter and asked me to take a seat. I waiting about hour and half before my name was called over PA system to come to Door 3. I followed a young USCIS officer to this office where was I sworn in before I took a seat. Next he asked me my full name and asked me to put my left and right index fingers (one at a time) into the fingerprint reader. He also took another photo using the webcam that was there. Next he asked me my address ( I had just moved but not outside of the USCIS district ) and already submitted an AR-11 so he looked that up and updated my application with the proper end dates for my last address.

Next we went straight into the tests - the questions were pretty simple:

1. What's the ocean on east coast of US?

2. What's freedom of religion?

3. When was constitution written?

4. Who was first president?

5. Whats one state that borders Canada?

6. How many amendments to constitution?

I got all six correct so we moved on to english test. It was a simple question I was asked to read off the iPad and then write the answer that he spoke on the iPad. Writing things on the iPad was hard - you have to use this weird stylus that doesn't have a tip (it has like a rubber ball on the end so very odd to write anything with it)

Next he wanted to know how I got my green card (through marriage) and then asked if we were still married? I answered no. He moved on to ask me my ex-wife's name and how we met. He proceeded after my answers. He asked me the yes/no questions to whether I support the constitution, willing to take up arms? I answered yes to those. If I'm part of any group / nazi etc. I answered no to those.

He then asked me some basic questions like my height, address history, travel history, DUIs trying to make sure I was the person who filled out the application and I didn't have any red flags. Once he was done he asked me to sign on the iPad that he updated my address on the application, etc and made sure my name and DOB was correct on the application as that's what would go on the naturalization certificate.

He then congratulated me and told me I would take the Oath today. He gave me a paper stating I passed and I would be scheduled for an Oath. Another form was all a questionnaire which asked questions whether anything had changed between your interview and your oath ceremony (like were you arrested, did you become a nazi / military lol). That had to be submitted before they put you on for the Oath the same day.

I filled out the questionnaire and waiting another hour and half (since it was lunch time and I missed the morning oath ceremony by about 20 minutes). I was called to the window where they took my green card (current and old). They asked me to make sure the certificate had all the correct information. I was then asked to sign the certificate and given a flag and envelope with a guide to naturalization (rights and responsibilities) and the national anthem.

20 minutes later, we were moved to the large conference room where oaths are held. We watched a few videos and the USCIS officer explained how awesome it was that 55 people from 18 countries had selected the USA as their home and it was really the end of all of our struggles with immigration. We then sang the national anthem, took the oath and were handed our certificates. There was no photo / video allowed during the ceremony but we could take photos afterwards.

So after 12 years in the US and 4 hours at USCIS on Tuesday, I'm finally a proud US citizen. I'll be applying for my passport and registering to vote today and then handling the SSA stuff in 2 weeks.
