I just don't understand the dems objection to this.

"Democrats and public health groups [Ed note: Big Pharma lobbying groups] oppose the bill, arguing that it could put patients in danger."

....terminally ill patients!

I think part of it is influence on the democrats by big pharma and the other part is a rabid opposition to anything Trump stands for regardless of how good it is for the American people.

Right to try already exists in 38 states, so the claim that Democrats are "overwhelmingly" against it is not really backed up by reality.

Having worked in research years ago, and seeing some of the regulatory processes involved, I support this bill in concept, primarily because the FDA just takes way too long with some of these steps compared to other countries. Although there is a good reason for the FDA process for drug approval, the current process for expanded access is somewhat burdensome and people end up dying before the process get's approved. It's always been my opinion that if you have a terminal illness, you have nothing left to lose. You may die either way, and the drug may end up being worse than the disease, but at that point individuals should have the right to choose.

I will say cutting it all the way back to drugs that have only passed phase I trials is inherently risky because there are a lot of unknowns involved, and some people will die because of that. Again though, if a doctor gives someone six months to live, and that person can accept that a drug may give them a year or two, but also the drug may kill them in a week, with informed consent, that should be the individuals choice.

Would they have to give the money back if they did not.?
