Yes, i would and change it then. Don't wait, because like anything...the process is more wait than anything.

Holy cow. I'm actually PLEASANTLY speechless for once. Paul just called me at work to tell me he checked the mail at home, and his Social Security Number/card came!!! I can't believe it. We were mentally prepared to be waiting the 4-6 weeks. I'm so relieved! He said it has "valid for work only with DHS authorization", but I feel like I read a comment somewhere that this is what they typically say. I'm assuming because he doesn't have an EAD yet maybe...? AT ANY RATE - having the number is amazing, even if the card has to be updated at some point. Woohoo!!!

I am glad for you guys.

My husband just got his today and it says the same. I'm thinking perhaps it's because there's no EAD/work permit yet...? Meaning he can't use it for working purposes until that happens.

At any rate - your number should never change, even if you have to update the card at some point.

Yes I think once you have the EAD, go to SSA and update the SSN card :)

So, we just came back from the SSA office. This is frustrating to say the least. The nice person at the SSA office told us they sent the required documentation to DHS. DHS has not verified the documentation still, after 3 weeks!!! The SSA is still waiting for them to respond to verify documents the DHS already has. I can only say we drew the short stick on manual verification + snail mailing it in. Hope everyone else doesn't have this kinda delays. This means, no nothing for my wife so far. Good luck to ya'll

Ugh :( I'm sorry you guys are waiting so long. SC is the same for DL, and for a state ID. I know you can file AOS without the SSN being issued, but we really wanted to get him added to everything before sending that in, so we were anxious to get the SSN too. Even though manual verification seems to happen often, I think just the delay and having to wait longer to really do anything is what makes it so annoying. Fingers crossed it'll be soon!!! We weren't even getting an update on Paul's, and his just arrived in the mail. So keep checking yours in case the same happens to you!

@LizM @Paul & Mallory thanks. Unfortunately how it was told to us. It's DHS, who is blocking the number to be issued. They have her birth-certificate, I-94 and K-1 Visa and other documentation, since they issued some off them. SSA person double checked everything and nothing seemed out of place.

Yeah DL is another problem on it's own here. We don't use the DMV (private company), but a state operated DPS (Department of Public safety) with Sheriff's trying to keep people in line and more. Some DPS agencies cannot and will not issue DL to foreign drivers, because the immigration paperwork needs to be revised and double checked with a 800# in DHS also. That will be another story for another day, when we get there. Home sweet ALA-BUBBA

yes, i have sent 3 set of 2 pix for each request (I-485,  I-131, I-765) to assure they won't RFE us lol

yes, i have printed the I-94 online, as some people seem to get it when they enter the country, others get it online.

so i had to print it out and just sent that copy with it.

if you want, you can send me your email and i will send you the cover letter i have used (sorry i'm a control freak hahaha)

to remember every single paper and copy that they need.

i also picked up at the 99 cent store a pack of little folders (this pack had 3 in it so yaaay), and i

basically put the cover letter with the check in the front, and each of these 3 folders have the I-485,  I-131, I-765 separate in one of them.

just made it look a bit organized and easier for whoever is going through paperwork :)

have you filled out all the forms yet?

I am about to finish up the last bits, husband is going to get the medical form filled out tonight, and rest of passport photos and we should be ready.  Hopefully sending in tomorrow or Wednesday at latest.

I know some people don't get e-notifications even though they included it in the package for some reason. But you definitely should have your hardcopies within the next few days.

don't get frustrated! that's what happens to all of us....

aren't there some free classes that she can take?

I know we don't have them here where I am, but when I used to live in Los Angeles, there were a gazillion classes for people that

could just show up whenever they could and they also paid only what they were able to pay.

Not sure what the classes were called or so, as I never took them, but I remember they exist.
