Well if you had got status and then went back you would still need a visa to return.

Yes my I94 is related to the J1 visa that I got in 2015. My J1 visa expired in October 2017 and my I94 expires at the end of September 2018. I was changing visa from J1 to F1 so I could study in the USA. I was not able to extend my J1 visa because they allowed you to stay here on J1 visa only for 2 years. I contacted with the school before I registered for classes and they guided me through the changing visa process. They prepared all the papers. I asked my advisor if I can go to visit my family in my home country and she told me that I may have trouble coming back to the United States so it is better for me to stay here until I get my student status. I sent all the papers and my case was pending and I got the decision three days ago. I was thinking to ask lawyer for help but after reading your post I think it would be better to go back to My home country and try apply for a visa at some point! Thank you for all your messages !!!!

Then I think you are confusing visa with status.

Currently, you might be with a J1 because your DS 2019 is still valid. The fact that the J1 visa on your passport expired is irrelevant. What matters is whether the DS 2019 is still OK. You can look at it and check the dates on it.

You have to go now to the international office and ask them for paperwork to get an F1 visa. You will have to go to your consulate in your country and get one. I recommend going as soon as possible so that you have enough time to do that and get back in August, ready for classes. I'm guessing you are on summer vacation now.

Why did she say that you could have trouble getting an F1? Is it because of the country you are from? Are your grades good?

I am currently enrolled in Summer Semester but I am about to drop my courses. I have very good grades from the previous two semesters, I even got Scholastic Excellence Award because of my GPA ( I am not bragging, I just want to explaing that I really want to finish my school program).

My Advisor told me to dont go to Poland because I would have trouble coming back. I think she thought they would not give my F1 stamp in my home country and I would not be able to come back. I did not have any idea about how to change the visa status so I believed her and stayed here. I visited her yesterday and she told that school did everything right.

I think I would leave USA before the expiration date on my I94. Before I leave I would get papers from school and try to apply for the Student Visa in my home country. And hope I would get one at some point

Being from Poland and having good grades, I doubt you will have any problems getting the F1 visa. Also, we seemed to have established you are OK with the i-94, because you are still on a J1.

If your summer courses are intensive you might have enough time between the time the class ends and the fall semester begins. When do they end? When do your classes being?

Take a copy of your transcript to the consulate interview just in case (you can get one through you academic website, it doesn't need to be an official copy).
