Hey Potomac Filers,

I sent in my petition on March 23rd 2018, NOA 1 is March 28th 2018

Still waiting to hear back. Lots of April Filers have received NOA 2.

Is it just me or is there anyone else who is also waiting?

Why does it seem like there is such a discrepancy on the official USCIS site that says Potomac is processing I-130s from October 2017?  Here it appears that many filers from 2018 have already been approved.

That is so true.  It seems they work very hard at keeping us off balance.  We are seeing March approvals but they claim to be processing October 2017 petitions.

One theory we had back in my K-1 days was that they use the date of the oldest petition on their website.  That petition may have multiple RFEs or other issues where it is lagging behind the rest of the office.  That actually may make a little sense and at the very least gives us a somewhat logical reason for the discrepancy.

As far as I understand, they are not claiming to be processing Oct '17 petitions. That timing would represent the absolute worst case scenario. If someones petition date is on that range he needs to inquire about it.

My understanding is that they do it to minimize the number of people inquiring and calling. As much as we all want to be updated with all the steps, but we also need to understand that by inquiring over over again we do nothing but slow down the process overhead!

On the USCIS site it states that they are currently processing petitions from October 2017.  One theory we had back in my K-1 days was that they use the date of the oldest petition they are working with on their website.  That petition may have multiple RFEs or other issues where it is lagging behind the rest of the office.  That actually may make a little sense and at the very least gives us a somewhat logical reason for the discrepancy.

That helps explain why they say October 2017 when March of 2018 is seeing approvals.  The oldest active I-130 petition at Potomac may be October 2017.

That's my understanding too, especially based on the wording on the website. The estimated time range displayed is based on data captured approximately two months prior to updating the page. Please note that times may change without prior notice. So there is no way they could say what they are currently processing since the page updates are based on 2 month old data. The only information I get from this website is if you want to file for an inquiry your case has to have been submitted in October 2017 or earlier.
