Naw, pretty much nailing it still to this day.  Of course, not everyone will agree with me, but I see the two as about the same thing.  Disparaging another human being is just not a good way to be.

Not disagreeing with that, but you said :

Quote

Make a disparaging remark about a black guy, and it’s blatant racism.

That's where you and a few others seem to be missing something and I'm still not sure why that is. It's easy to look up the definition of racism. Making disparaging remarks is not racist unless the remarks themselves are racist.

This is arguably a compliment, see man.  Apes are Great, and deserve full inclusion in our political system, si man.

Either this refers to an orangutan (equality in politics = good!) or to a fat orange Nixon.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Don't agree with what she said but what does that have to do with a tv show? Lol beyond asinine. Freedom of speech? What freedom of speech? Only if you're a liberal.

Perfect example of hypocrisy: Football players allowed to kneel on field, she's not allowed to tweet off the screen. Yes, yes, I know...they weren't being racist yadda yadda yadda save it you're missing the point. Her personal opinions are her personal opinions, we can agree or not agree but she wasn't shoving them down our throat on prime time. They can stay in the locker room and keep playing, she can keep tweeting and keep acting, what a bunch of snowflakes.

Working for a tv-show is no different than any other job. Your boss can look through your social media and fire you for something you wrote that is against their policy and beliefs.

Ahhhh you must have missed my first post but I beat ya to it, sorry.

And no on is forcing you to watch prime time football.

In fact, no one is forcing you to care about if a player is kneeling or not.. all personal choices.

Another personal choice would be how you choose to portray yourself on Twitter. As a society we decided( or at least I thought we decided) that being racist is intolerable.

So when you choose to use PUBLIC (not private) social media to spread your opinion in hopes to defame a protected class.

Society should act accordingly.

Why? If you're working for a company you're representing them and if they specifically say in their mission statement that hey we're welcoming everyone and someone starts writing antisemitism on their Facebook they shouldn't be surprised if they got fired. The above scenario is just an example.

So since Trump belongs to at least three or four protected classes, he should REALLY be off limits for disparaging remarks, right?

(But technically, I believe “protected class” is used for EEO purposes, not public banter.)

Maybe.. really depends on the context.

The purpose of the classes is to help create diversity and minimize discrimination.

Which is not really Trump's forte.

(Have you ever taken "diversity training"?)

Personally I thought shutting down the show was a bit extreme myself but her statement was unacceptable. That being said, Samantha Bee is now in hot water over comments yesterday. Its starting to make the news rounds. I wonder what Time Warner's response will be. You would think, given the actions of ABC recently and the political climate, she would at the very least be pulled from the air for a short period and required to make an apology.
