For all the talk about disrespecting the anthem and the flag... my goodness, does no one remember what she did with that? The screaming, the smug smile, the spit, and the crotch grab? How offended everyone was? But back then, instead of just outrage, there were still consequences, she lost deals and projects, but nothing too major. Now people watch some men silently kneeling, and freak the heck out.

 

A lot of free speech is shoved down our throats though. By people you agree and disagree with. Wanting it to not be shoved down your throat could be seen by some as snowflake-like. Roseanne's behavior is more offensive to me than a person kneeling. But i'm not even demanding she be fired (though it's not surprising to me and its justified), i'm more concerned with the fact they gave her a platform to begin with and feign surprise.. that people have been making money off of her for years and know that she is completely unstable. Like many other celebrities, it usually ends up taking them to bad places.

I don't agree there is anything snowflake like by not wanting things where they don't belong - I don't go around freaking out about it. Since I tend to put my money where my mouth is I'll give another example - Mel Gibson. He's been known to say some pretty outlandish things, including against Jews. That said, I've never had a problem with his movies, and have watched many of the movies he directed including braveheart(decent job), apocalypto and even the passion of the christ even though it's a borderline anti semitic movie. Because unlike the snowflakes who freaked out over this whole Roseanne thing, I keep a separation between TV and what someone does or says in their own time in their own personal life, as should everyone. Personally, I didn't watch Roseanne although I do know some people who do, but it doesn't change the fact I don't believe art and politics or personal beliefs have anything to do with one another. I've always believed that or as an Israeli, I'd probably have to boycott about 80% of artists. For the record I think what she said was indefensible on a personal level, but that won't affect how I view a TV show or the right of that show to exist.

 

BTW I have heard from some who watched it that it has been completely scrubbed off of Hulu, and any mention of it, including in their own "watch history" is simply gone. Even if they want to watch a rerun they can't, in a subscription they pay for. What kind of right does anyone have to pretend a show never even existed? It's a TV show for crying out loud.

Naw, pretty much nailing it still to this day.  Of course, not everyone will agree with me, but I see the two as about the same thing.  Disparaging another human being is just not a good way to be.
