Quick question over here...

Since the father of the child has insurance, wouldn't that child automatically be covered, and wouldn't his birth too? Or does this rule apply only when the mother is covered? I remember when Junior was born three years ago, we did not even officially add him until probably a month or two later, but he was automatically covered as a new-born.

Yes the child's part of the experience is cover ( once he/she is out of the box  so to speak)  So any incubator, meds and exams for the child are covered.  But that doesn't cover the labor and most of the delivery ( such as epidurals )

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Not automatically covered until you submit the newborn info to your employer plan.

The birth of a child re-opens the insurance window as a life event.  It might even be an option at the point to add the mother too, but she will have to check with husbands HR.

check with the local county health office, my son from previous marriage was covered for child birth for a total out of pocket of $2400, this was not immigration related but the no insurance is the same. It's not automatic we had to sign up for it to be eligible, for the record this was Baltimore County, Baltimore Maryland, I assume it is not limited to that one location. It's at worth at least inquiring

I am totally willing to pay the insurance I don’t care how much that costs but didn’t think I could just go online and apply.. I thought I’d need to be on my husbands or have a ssn. that’s why I’m asking if anyone knows of another way rather than paying out of pocket. I’d rather pay a monthly fee for insurance than $600 for each visit (one clinic wanted that for each appointment)

I am not sure if this depends on the insurance company, but my husband was able to add me to his insurance(UHC) even before I moved to the US and got my visa. So I know it is possible even without the SSN. Try asking your husband's insurance company, they might have a way for that.
