I-130 Mistake & Receipt # Question

Hi VJ community,

I've been lurking for a couple of months but I finally decided to create a profile today as I have finally mailed my I-130 petition for my husband who's currently in Morocco. We got married a month ago tomorrow . I created this profile mainly to ask this question; I am currently looking over my copy of all the documents I mailed today (I looked over everything a billion and one times already before mailing it) and I noticed under "Information about Beneficiary's Family" Questions 25a. -32., I put in info about his mother and father. I never even noticed the sentence underneath the heading stating "Provide information about the Beneficiary's spouse and children" (I am his spouse and he doesn't have any children). I guess I was thrown off before because of the page asking for my parents names and places of birth, my mind somehow figured they were also asking about his parents too. At first I thought okay no big deal they will see it was simple mistake and ignore that part but now I'm super paranoid and worried that they're going to reject my entire petition because of this mistake or think I'm trying to get him AND his parents here. Does anyone out there know if they would reject it over this one mistake? I filled out everything else perfectly and attached everything I was suppose to, and gave explanations where necessary. I swear I could kick myself for not noticing this before! Thank you in advance for your replies.

Once they get your case at the USCIS, they'll keep it there for like 9 months doing who-knows-what with it. But, during that period, you can call them and tell them that you made a mistake and ask them what to do. They may give you an RFE (request for further evidence) for it which means that they'll want you to send a new I-130 or something (they'll tell you exactly what they want). Then again, they may be able to fix it on the phone. But just get their number on your speed dial and bug them until you get your answers. Remember, you paid like 535 bucks just for the privilege of sending them a packet, so don't be afraid to bug them. :) And good luck! Hopefully yours doesn't take the whole 9 months. ;)

Thank you. I'm hoping it's something I can just explain to them over the phone and have fixed that way instead of waiting for a reply only to get an RFE

Hi everyone, I have a question.

So I noticed I made two small errors on my I-130. I got a text last Friday that it was accepted and sent to the Texas Service Center. I tried to call the 800 number for the USCIS because I read online (also told by a member here) that you can try to speak with a representative and possibly explain an error and if it isn't anything  major, it can possibly be corrected over the phone. The automated system asked me for my receipt number. Is the receipt number I received from the lockbox starting with "SRC" going to be the same one that Texas assigns to my case? Because the automated voice stated to "ignore the dashes" and mentioned an asterisk, my receipt number has neither of those. I don't know what to do now. I just want to try to get in touch with someone and explain the error before it gets rejected or sent back for such a small thing. Please help!

Thanks

Yes the SRC number is your receipt number. The fact that you were given a receipt number generally means that your petition package has been accepted, so it's unlikely you will get a rejection at this point. It's possible that you may receive an RFE for the error,  but that likely wouldn't happen until they actually review the case several months from now. Try calling the customer service line and entering the SRC number.

Great thank you for your response. I called USCIS customer service line yesterday and explained the errors over the phone. The rep read me a scripted response then told me I can either send a letter directly to the service center reviewing my case once I receive the first NOA in the mail or my husband can explain the errors at his interview. Which I gather probably wouldn't happen until sometime next year. Whyyyy oh whyyy does this all have to take so long??:clock:

Depending on how serious the errors are, I wouldn't wait until the interview to address them. Casablanca is already a tough consulate, and you don't want to make things more difficult by potentially confusing the CO with petition errors.

I was thinking that which is why will send them a letter explaining. The errors are so minor I'm really hoping it doesn't cause a big issue or delay. This process is already long and draining enough.

....that they received my letter? I made a thread a week or so ago explaining that I had noticed a couple of small errors that I failed to catch before sending off my I-130 petition package. I was instructed to wait for the I-797c then send a letter to TSC explaining the errors. I included another I-130 without the errors just in case they asked for one. I tracked it and saw that it was picked up by an "agent" from their PO box on Wednesday. Does anyone know if they send you notification that they have received additional correspondence from you? Has anyone ever sent any additional documents in for their petition in an attempt to prevent an RFE from being sent to you? Was it successful?

I put my SRC number on the top of my letter so I'm hoping it makes it into my file with everything I've already submitted:unsure:

No need to make multiple threads. You can continue with the previous thread you started. You were given proper answers in that thread.

Do NOT attempt to send unsolicited documents to prevent an RFE. You are going to cause more harm than good. For now, simple wait for an RFE if they send one.

Geesh sorry, I just figured I would make a new thread since asking questions in my old one would likely turn up with no new viewers and I was really curious hearing if others have done something similar.

I wouldn't say my letter was unsolicited. I called USCIS and asked them what to do about the errors. They are the ones that instructed me to wait for the receipt notice then send a letter to the mailing address at the bottom of the notice explaining the errors on the I-130.
