Hi, hope this is in the right section! Apologies in advance if not. I really need some help/advice....my fiancé and I received our NOA2 end of February which has an ‘expires’ date of 26th of June, our case has been moved to the London embassy, we have the case number and have the letter with the next steps (filling in the next set of forms, interview prep, etc) but the issue we have is my fiancé recently lost his job..he’s since found a new job but it doesn’t provide healthcare but they say they will give this to him after he’s established in the job as it’s a very small business (literally just him and his boss right now). Insurance is very important to us so we really want to get this sorted out while I’m still in the UK so we have discussed having some more time before fillling the next forms...also because of the new job we thought it might look better on the affidavit of support if he had some more time in the job but we’re really worried that once the NOA2 expires we have to go back to the start of the process again? I have contacted the embassy to get an answer on this but still waiting for a response, also we spoke to a lawyer online but they were no help at all so I’m reaching out to you guys in hopes someone can help us understand this a little better. It’s been a very stressful time for my fiancé and I with losing his job and all we’ve been through with the paperwork so far so we’re just so desperate to figure this out as we feel we might lose everything we’ve worked on to st thus far in the process if we don’t file the forms right now but also knowing the US healthcare system as we do we want things to be in place once I make the move. It’s causing a lot of strain on us. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

Personally, I would not let this stop me.  I know of no requirement which says he must be in a job for a specific time before visa approval.  Once the K-1 visa is approved, you will have 6 months from the date of your medical to enter the US.......

My advice is to continue in the process.....good luck..

Hey hun,

I also agree with @thismissileman - the process is long and you can take advantage of the 6 months. You can also look into extending your travel insurance policy as well to 90 days. Hope that's helpful. Good luck x

Thank you for your kind words and advice. It’s not so much the job stopping us it’s more the healthcare side of things we’re concerned about so it’s a personal decision that we need more time to get that side of things sorted. We’ve been concerned that the noa2 would expire before we’re ready to fill the next set of forms? Does that make sense? Thanks again

Thank you all for your advice. So basically just proceed and see what happens, how long it takes, etc? Does it matter if we don’t put in the next set of forms by the time the NOA2 expires? Because we’ve been dealing with a lot of stuff we’ve not done anything to prep for the next step as yet. Thanks again everyone

You said he will have medical insurance through his new job  when he is established.  You can delay your entry into the US for several months after you receive the visa if needed.  There are also other healthcare alternatives available once you are in the US.

I would proceed on the current course of action.

I’m not an expert about what happens if you don’t proceed before it expires, but you should probably move forward before it does expire.

Go to the U.K. sub forum for visa journey - google it and it should come up, it has step by step for U.K. process.

Firstly you should go get passport photos done ASAP, and then work on getting your ACRO police certificate done, as that takes about a week. If you dedicate one day to getting it all done, it won’t take so long. :) you need your acro, medical questionnaire, DS-160, medical summary from your GP with immunization records, birth certificate, passport photos, passport, and your affidavit of support

You don't want to let it expire before you take care of things at the NVC stage and embassy stage... continue with the process. Once you have the visa, you have 6 months to use it. You're going to have to do things within the timeframes...

Don't worry about the NOA2 date, it usually can be extended. Each embassy has its own policy, so you should contact the embassy and see if it is a problem if you can schedule your interview after the expiration date. I believe it can be extended up to 6 months beyond the initial NOA2, but that's just based on my memory. If you do a search here on VJ, you can probably get better info on that.

I speak from experience. Due to USCIS incompetence, our petition reached the embassy after the NOA2 expired, and my wife had her interview 3 months after the expiration date. Didn't have any problems...

Good luck!
