Got our interview date! July 15. Now I am trying to get in touch to confirm that it will be a combo...

You can file a SR to inquire about your i-751 taking too long. They will tell you whether the i-751 and N400 will be adjudicated at the same time. Mine did.

did you get an update?

Yes, sorry for the delay. We got a separate letter stating that it would be a combo so I had to buy a ticket to come back 2 weeks earlier than planned to be there in person but it was very good I did that. As soon as the officer saw me and my son with my husband I think he already was on our side. We went in for our combo interview on Monday and got there early (arrived and was in waiting room by 7:20 for a 8:05 interview time). The officer came in just a few minutes later (almost 30 minutes early!). My husband was using the bathroom so he said no problem and came back out a few minutes later. We went in probably around 7:45 AM (so I recommend going earlier than your time!!). The officer was very friendly and quickly put us at ease. We started with questions for the I751, where did you get married, etc. etc. Largely just focused on when we got married and dates of moving, travel, etc. Then he went quickly to the N400. Asked civic questions and my husband got the first 6 correct (what is the capital of CA, ... can't remember the others). Then he read and wrote on the iPad and told us we were approved. I think it total it took about 1 hour but a lot of that was just waiting for him to type things into his computer. Not that many questions for us. He didn't ask us explicitly for any original docs but when he asked us questions, I would take out the original docs that we had that supported the fact. E.g. showed him pictures from our family trip to Japan or showed him the original house deed when we talked about purchase of a house, etc. He told us we would probably get oath date in August and wrote 8/14/2019 on the letter he handed my husband. Hard to believe this process is finally almost over!! Good luck everyone who is still going through the process!

Greetings! I became a permanent resident in 2017 then I applied for condition removal 2 years later and my I-751 is still pending but I got and 18 months extension on my greencard. This year (2020) I filed N-400 because I'm eligible. It looks like I will have to wait for about 2 years before my naturalization interview so I wonder if there's a way for me to travel overseas with expired green card and my 18 months extension is over too. I really need to visit my parents and my grandmom. I would appreciate any information on this.

Hey Diana. You have to make in infopass appointment at your local office and get your passport stamped with I-551 1 year extension.

Just had my i751 ROC interview. The officer told me I can apply for N400. My PR 3 year anniversary is in the beginning of November. I wanted to know if I could still apply for n400 even thought my GC is expired but i have the extension letter when i applied for ROC. I also just checked my update and it says new card is being produced. Does this mean it was approved?

Does anyone know if they are still combining the i751 and n400 interviews?  My i751 is in Potomac which is the last place you want it to be (23.5 mos) and n400 is here in Charlotte (18 mos).  The green card will be about 6 months before the citizenship according to those guesstimates on the USCIS site.

How can I find out if they are combining them or will it just happen?

There's no way of knowing upfront.

I had my N-400 interview today with pending I-751 (filed 05/16/17), when I got there they promptly called me at my scheduled time, I took my spouse with me since I had the I-751 pending and I actually wanted to go in with him since I was very nervous, when the AO called me I asked him if I could take my spouse with me and he said no because the N-400 interview is just for the applicant and then I went by myself with him, he was very nice tho, I was worried because I have heard you have to take your spouse with you, I answered everything correctly and he was very concerned about all my international trips, he asked for my selective service card, I passed all the questions 6 correct straight, then he said your application has been approved in the following weeks you will be getting a letter with instructions for your ceremony, then I asked about my pending I-751 and he said that since i submitted so much evidence (the file was on top of his desk and it was huge) he said he had enough info to just approve me and I brought in my spouse with me and he saw him, so I was actually surprised about that, he said I might get a green card in the mail and that I needed to return that green card. He said once again congratulations, so it was super smooth and I am very exited. While I was typing this I received a case statues update that my I-751 was approved and card was being produced so I will have to return it as he said. Minutes after I-751 was updated my N-400 also changed to “Oath will be scheduled”. Good luck to everyone still waiting on their approvals

I had my N400 interview yesterday and the same thing happened to me(pending I-751). The IO said she already requested for my I-751 to be approved and told me I passed my N400 interview. But since my I751 is still pending, she couldn't approve my N400 in the system. As soon as she will be notified with the I751, she said she will approve my N400.

My question is, how long did you wait to get a system approval after your n400 interview?

Minutes. When I got home both my I-751 and N-400 were approved. I received the green card within the same week. Super fast and I was surprised about it. I also got my ceremony schedule letter the same week. I had my oath ceremony about two weeks after the interview. I had to surrender my green card and all other USCIS documents I had in my name. I was surprised everything was so fast.

My wife has been waiting on her I-751 since 3/2020, and her N-400 since 3/2021.

They combined her packages and stopped working on her I-751 pkg due to her filed N-400.

This caused us a hell of a mess this past June when we discovered her green card had expired in the beginning of the month.

USCIS had sent a 2nd I-797 letter stating she had a 24 month extension, which I took to mean it was a sequential extension from the original 18mos extension that expired in 12/2021 since we already knew they had stopped working on her I-751 pkg due to her N-400. Oh contraire!, that isn't the case. It's only a total of 24 mos. USCIS doesn't send out an additional notification (I-797) telling you there is an additional extension, nor do they tell you that you need to apply for an I-551 stamp in your passport. We were leaving to go on an international trip in July and that threw everything into complete chaos.

Tried to do it the right way and just request the regular appt request (30 day reply) in lieu of the emergency (3 day reply). Tried the congressional route and only one really went to bat for us and at the 11th hour of the last possible workday before our departure were we able to get an appt for her I-551. The other two offices were completely worthless. One guy went above and beyond for us and both of us had came to the hard realization that she wasn't going to be able to join my two adult kids and myself on this trip. But miracles do happen.

Now we just received her N-400 interview notification for the end of this month. Great News, and she is super excited to finally become an American.

Once that is complete we need to address the N-600 submissions for her two minor children still in the Philippines. Can't believe they want $1120 each for this now. If she is a citizen that should be enough to get her kids US passports and bypass the whole I-130 process that we are waiting on for them. But probably not, that would be too damn logical.  Seems like the govt only bends over backwards for those who cut the line and waltz on over the border while those of us who play by the rules have to wait and pay untold thousands of dollars. Very frustrating.

Not true, minor children born before a parent becoming USA citizen can only become USA citizen automatically if they come to the USA with a green card and live with USA citizen parent.

At this point if they are not already LPR you will need to file an i-130 for each, get them to the USA, get the green card and then you can file the n600.
