Hi, everybody

Chicago filer here with 2 pending cases. I am May 2017 I-751 filer and applied for N400 in May 2018 . Biometrics scheduled for May 31. After that not sure what to expect. Looks like Chicago doesn't do official Combo interviews. So I assume it might be something like 2 interviews close to each other. But it is really hard to predict though.

Are you get a stamp on your passport? We have similar timeline. I filed 751 in June 2017. I scheduled an info pass on June 8th to get a stamp. I am gonna ask them to see if they can combine two interviews. My fingerprint for N400 is scheduled on June 12th. Expected N400 completion is June 2019.

AOS Filing progress:

Package Filed: Dec 16

USCIS Receipt Update: Dec 18

Bio Appointment : Jan 16

RFE Receipt: Jan 23

RFE USCIS Receipt: Jan 28

EAD Approved: Feb 23

EAD on hand: Feb 28

Interview Notice Received: June 10

Interview Scheduled: Aug 10

My extension letter expires in August, so I will schedule an appointment just before the expiration, as they take the actual green card in most cases on these appointments.

Actually, we never requested anything.  Based on what I had heard with others that were combo filers, I thought it might happen when my wife's N400 interview was scheduled, so I made sure I was there, and sure enough, the IO requested that I come back when she came out to call my wife's name.  I went back, was sworn in and had an approximately 10 minute ROC interview where she essentially verified the details of the I751.  She also asked if we wanted to add any additional evidence, so we added the last two tax filings.  Then I was escorted back to the waiting area and my wife continued with her N400 interview.

Hi, @Bill & Katya.

I wanted to ask you, what type of questions did they ask you on the 10 minute portion of ROC interview? Anything particular to pay attention to? Was there interview in Chicago office itself or your have a different local office?

Also when they scheduled for N400 interview, what was going on with I-751at that moment -> Was it also scheduled for an Interview, or was it still pending?

Sorry so many questions! :D Thanks in advance!

Questions are fine, that is why we are here. :)

As to the ROC interview, it was very basic.  The IO asked both of us to verify the information on the form such as address, phone numbers, email, employment.  Then she asked us if we had any additional evidence to add to the package and we added the last two tax return transcripts since we had filed the I751. Beyond that, it was very basic.  The interview was in Detroit since that is our local office.  When the N400 interview notice was scheduled, the ROC was still sitting at CSC as far as I knew.  We got the online messages like everyone else, but based on what I read, I assumed it was actually transferred to Detroit to combine it with the N400 which was actually the case as the IO in Detroit clearly had our I751 package in front of her.  We never received an interview notice for the I751, but I made sure I was with my wife for her N400 as I had read that many couples were interviewed at their local office during the N400 interview.which was indeed the case for us as well.  After the interview, it sounded like the ROC was approved, and my wife did get the notice that the N400 was recommended for approval.  Then a few days later we received the transfer to NBC notice, and online it said the N400 was approved awaiting the oath to be scheduled.  It was like that for a month, then we received the NOA telling us the ROC was approved and a few days later the oath was scheduled for June 11th.

I hope that helps.

Good Luck!

Just Curious, it seems it's a must to have our ROC files moved to field offices after applying for N400. Does anyone have an idea on the time frame after applying for N400 that this happens?

I don't know what the average time frame is, but for me it was the following:

March 27 : Applied for Naturalization (N-400)

April 3 : Biometrics for N-400

April 5 : I-751 transferred to another USCIS office for processing

(Although the notice said that it was transferred to NBC, not local office. I believe anything that needs to be scheduled for an interview is sent there)

No updates so far. I even check astrology .Lol  lol lol. And astrology says November -December, if you are curious 😂 Which coinsides with the full length of timelines for CSC for me (18-19 month approximately) .I know that now they do background check. After that I expect almost anything. Case transfer or inline for interview.

As for time completion for citizenship it displays July 2019 for me. But I am online filer, hope stuff will start moving sooner.

Also wanted to mention, that when I did fingerprints, they said that they have it in system already, and after that the receipt for second green card biometrics ( CRI-89) gave me the 2-week updates from mydhs.gov account  : “We have taken an action on your case” ; and later displayed the date for citizenship biometrics, as if attached to citizenship file. After that no news.

Thought I'd my experience here.

- Filed ROC in July 2016 and there wasn't a single change in the case status outside of acceptance.

- One year had passed and I became eligible for N-400, so filed that in July 2017

- Got passport stamp to extend status

- Case in line for interview in August 2017 for N-400

- May 2018, got notification on my ROC that the case was moved to a different office for processing

- June 2018, got an interview scheduled notice for my N-400 for July 25th.

- Did a case inquiry for my ROC in January of 2018 and got a letter 7 months later on July 14, 2018 saying that they know I have a N-400 interview soon and that my ROC will likely be processed at the same time.

- July 25th, show up for interview and they call my name and the first thing they ask me is if my spouse came along

- They had interview with the spouse and myself for the ROC, then escorted my spouse out.

- They continued the N-400 interview by myself.

- Once we went through the application, finished the three tests, they said  my application was approved and that I should get an oath ceremony notice.

Do you all recommend applying to Citizenship while i751 is pending? My window to apply opens end of December. Applied to remove conditions on January this year . I’ve seen different opinions and cases about doing it, positive and not so positive.. I can’t decide if I should do it or just wait after I get my conditions lifted 🤔

I had my N-400 interview today with pending I-751 (filed 05/16/17), when I got there they promptly called me at my scheduled time, I took my spouse with me since I had the I-751 pending and I actually wanted to go in with him since I was very nervous, when the AO called me I asked him if I could take my spouse with me and he said no because the N-400 interview is just for the applicant and then I went by myself with him, he was very nice tho, I was worried because I have heard you have to take your spouse with you, I answered everything correctly and he was very concerned about all my international trips, he asked for my selective service card, I passed all the questions 6 correct straight, then he said your application has been approved in the following weeks you will be getting a letter with instructions for your ceremony, then I asked about my pending I-751 and he said that since i submitted so much evidence (the file was on top of his desk and it was huge) he said he had enough info to just approve me and I brought in my spouse with me and he saw him, so I was actually surprised about that, he said I might get a green card in the mail and that I needed to return that green card. He said once again congratulations, so it was super smooth and I am very exited. While I was typing this I received a case statues update that my I-751 was approved and card was being produced so I will have to return it as he said. Minutes after I-751 was updated my N-400 also changed to “Oath will be scheduled”. Good luck to everyone still waiting on their approvals
