Thought I would start a thread for those who applied for N400 while I751 still pending.

Here is my timeline

I applied I751 in June 2017, and the case is still pending. Scheduled an info pass appointment on June 8th to get a stamp on my passport.

Submitted N400 on May 24th and biometrics is scheduled. Have seen some other posts saying N400 cant be approved till they approve 751 and I was hoping N400 can lead the process.

Comments welcomed!

I applied for n400 while my i751 was pending.

Shortly after i filed N400, I received i751 interview notice.

I didn't have a concurrent interview. I was told by my I751 examiner that if i would have wrote a letter to the office and requested a combo interview, they probably could have done it.

My i751 was approved two weeks after the interview.

thanks for sharing. Do you remember how many months after your filed 751 you had your interview? So are you still waiting for your N400 interview? When did you file it?

15 months.

I filed n400 in June, I was scheduled an interview for late Oct on a Sat.

The field office was closed on Sat. I had to call USCIS and it took them 5 months to get me rescheduled. I had my interview in March and still waiting for my oath ceremony. Went for an info pass and was told my file was wrongfully transferred to another field office,/

My case is not representative of Boston Field office, most cases move much faster than mine.

My wife filed the N400 January 2018, 13 months after filing her I751.  We had a joint interview when my wife was scheduled for her N400 interview in April and the I751 was approved a month later.  They finally scheduled the oath ceremony so we are nearing the end of the journey.

They cannot finalize the N400 until the I751 is finalized, but they can approve the N400 (interview and tests) and put you in line for the oath, but it will not be scheduled until the ROC is complete.  In our case, filing the N400 didn't really speed up the ROC (maybe a couple of weeks earlier than others filing in the same timeframe), but since the N400 combined the ROC and started the N400 clock, we are soon to be done with everything rather than waiting for the ROC to file the N400.  Those that waited will now be starting the N400 clock which can vary greatly depending on the field office.

Did you ask for a combo interview? I guess N400 interview was scheduled first, how did you let them know that you wanted to have 751 interview together?

Actually, we never requested anything.  Based on what I had heard with others that were combo filers, I thought it might happen when my wife's N400 interview was scheduled, so I made sure I was there, and sure enough, the IO requested that I come back when she came out to call my wife's name.  I went back, was sworn in and had an approximately 10 minute ROC interview where she essentially verified the details of the I751.  She also asked if we wanted to add any additional evidence, so we added the last two tax filings.  Then I was escorted back to the waiting area and my wife continued with her N400 interview.

Applied for I-751 in very early June 2017, then just applied for N-400 online in May 2018. Immediately got a NOA online from USCIS. New York City is the office of processing I suppose.

Time frame for the N-400 approval is scheduled for 13 months. May 2019.

I applied for ROC in April 2017. At CSC.

Applied for N400 March 2018.

ROC was moved to NBC shortly after I applied for N400, meaning they will be jointly adjudicated.

N400 speeds depend entirely on the local office in question. I know some users here with a pending ROC who applied in march 2018 for n400 and already have citizenship, because their office was Chicago.

My local office is taking a lot longer due to heavy backlog. So I know my N400/ROC will be adjudicated way later than the time that other April ROC CSC filers will be approved. But I am okay with this, and applied knowing this would happen.

I am okay with this simply because yes, my ROC process is prolonged, but my overall journey to citizenship is sped up! Because had I waited to get the 10 year greencard, THEN applied for the N400, that would add another 6 months to my journey.

So don't worry even if your ROC process is delayed. You will still be in status, and closer to naturalization.

The ROC can be approved by the officer who adjudicates the N-400.  Most of the officers do not know this and I have seen many different posts.  One where someone was verbally told they were approved for both and should have oath within 60 days (which did not happen) and someone told they could not approve the N-400, but by the time that person reached the train station, both ROC/USC petitions were approved.

The officer will need to request and review the ROC petition, which they may have access to, but not fully understand.  Send several correspondences with your ROC/USC NOA's to the field office and request they be approved together.  If I were you, I would send triplicates to the field office and to both service centers that received ROC & USC petitions.  Just bother the heck out of them!

Waiting to hear on ROC since March 2017. Applied for N400 on Feb 26, 2018. At this point I'm afraid N400 may actually delay the ROC.

For us is sped things up a little bit compared to other ROC filers from December 2016.  Additionally, since we started the N400 clock ticking, that is now complete as well.

Good Luck!

Exactly, the N400 clock is a separate clock that won't start until the N400 is filed.  Why not have both the ROC and N400 clock running at the same time instead of waiting for one to finish before starting the next one.

Hi, everybody

Chicago filer here with 2 pending cases. I am May 2017 I-751 filer and applied for N400 in May 2018 . Biometrics scheduled for May 31. After that not sure what to expect. Looks like Chicago doesn't do official Combo interviews. So I assume it might be something like 2 interviews close to each other. But it is really hard to predict though.
