I-9 after Green Card

My wife came to the US on a K-1 Visa last year and soon after we applied for an I-9 and Green Card. I-9 came first and she began working. Green Card came after and her work has a copy of her Green Card. Her work is now requesting that she complete a new I-9. Should she need to do that? Shouldn't Green Card be all she needs for work authorization now? Thanks in advance...

Pretty sure you're confusing i9 with actual work permit documents. I9 is just verification that she's eligible for employment. She'd need work permit to work legally. 

 

Anyway. Yes green card is her work permit now, but she also have to file the verification form if her employer requires it.

You have to file a new i-9 (your employer has to). Update your status at SSA office and then file new i-9. Anytime your status changes, employer has to file new i-9 form.

She didn't apply for an I-9. She applied for an EAD. Her employer would then have her complete an I-9 to verify her work authorization, as they are required to do.

 

Now that she has a green card, her work is asking for her to complete a new I-9 since (I'm assuming) the EAD expired or since here status changed. This is a normal process. Complete the form, provide the documents requested, and move along.

When applying for a new job, she would need to complete an I-9 at that time as well.

 

I also suggest, if she hasn't done so already, going to the SSA and getting an unrestricted Social Security card since she now has a green card. This makes filling out the I-9 simpler in the future as she can show the unrestricted card + a valid state ID or driver's license as her evidence of work authorization.
