Bush nearly places Queen Elizabeth in 18th century

I went to go see the Queen and Phillip a few years ago, they came to Alberta for the Centennial.

Proper royal protocol dictates that you never refer to her as Queen Elizabeth, it should always be "Her Majesty". I was reading about her visit in a magazine the other day and they just called her Elizabeth. Bloody cheek!

The fact is, her visit (and especially her speech) put GWB in his place and just showed us how much of a pillock he is.

The queen is a master of putting on a show, she has been doing it long enough and she will be doing it long after GWB has gone, I can imagine the thought in her head when he dribbled on yesterday and those bloody pants he wore, and those awful painted shoe's omg shoot the bloody dresser.

To be fair I prefer her to him; at least she has had the good sense to keep her mouth shut on pretty much every issue. Her major gaffe was the whole Diana aftermath. It was pretty obvious that she really hated Diana and didn't care what the British people thought and I thought the whole affair was very telling. I think the Queen has disdain for the British peoples' opinions but that's just a hunch. Maybe it was because she hated Diana more than she cared about what her subjects were feeling.

I didn't get the whole outpouring of grief over Diana, but I do think the Queen handled it v. v. badly. Other than that she pretty much stays out of the way and doesn't make her opinions public. She probably interferes in matters of state from time to time, but it's from behind closed doors.

Personally I don't see the point of having a Queen, but she's the UK's problem...not mine.

We have it on DVD. It was VERY unsympathetic to Cherie Blair. It's worth a look; Helen Mirren dazzles as usual, but that guy they have playing Prince Philip...something Cromwell...does a RUBBISH English accent.

She is one remarkable Lady! But has any other Brit got a little peeved that 90% of the American media refer to her as Queen Elizabeth !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Queen Elizabeth died in 1603, was born in 1533 and was the daughter of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII. The current visiting monarch is Queen Elizabeth II (you don't actually become I until II succeeds lol) I know it's just a minor detail but it bugs the hell out of me everytime I hear them call her Queen Elizabeth (yes I know get a life!)

Good point! I never noticed it really.. the difference and it DOES obviously make a difference.. and she IS a classy lady.. I'm surprised she even let it show.. I'm a big fan (realize that's the not "popular" thing), but I think the woman has lived a life worthy of respect IMO.

Actually, just to be picky, Scottish Nationalists consider the queen to be known as Queen Elizabeth II of England, and Queen Elizabeth I of Great Britain as Scotland didn't ever have an Elizabeth, but England did (7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603).

And in much less reported news, Barak Obama grossly overstated the death toll from the tornado in Kansas the other day, by 9,988. So, where are the equivalent of the Bush-bash-bots calling Obama an idiot?

Obama Blunder: 10,000 Died In Kansas Tornado

(CBS) RICHMOND, Va. Barack Obama, caught up in the fervor of a campaign speech Tuesday, drastically overstated the Kansas tornadoes death toll, saying thousands had died.

"In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died -- an entire town destroyed," Obama said in a 27-minute speech to 500 people packed into a sweltering art studio for a fundraiser.

The death toll was 12. According to the 2000 census, the population of the town was 1,574.

Obama mentioned the disaster in saying he had been told by the office of Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius that the state's National Guard had been depleted by its commitment to the Iraq War.

"Turns out that the National Guard in Kansas only had 40 percent of its equipment and they are having to slow down the recovery process in Kansas," Obama said, his shirt sleeves rolled up and his head glistening with sweat.

As he concluded his remarks a few minutes later, he appeared to realize his faux pas.

"There are going to be times when I get tired. There are going to be times when I get weary. There are going to be times when I make mistakes," he said.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said later that the senator meant to say "at least 10," instead of 10,000.
