How many people are surveyed in US polls? Usually no more than 1,500 to get the answers to the questions, and we have 300 million more people than in Iraq. In the "science" of polling, it is accepted that 1,000- 1,500 is enough to generate statistically accurate numbers. 3500 is a huge number to be surveyed, and while it is harder to get the varietal cross-section that is easily done in the US, people/orgs like Zogby and Pew and been in Iraq since the beginning figuring out how to poll as accurately as possible.

True - but it’s not just about the debates in the US and Europe – we can talk about this endlessly, but without addressing the fact that we’re making decisions on behalf of a huge group of people who have no direct input into those decisions, who have the most investment in the outcome, and who (by most accounts) do not want us involved.

Agreed, however if it transpired they 'did' want our help I think we should be willing to assist them when possible.

Well that's a big "if" at the moment. Clearly having first destroyed the country we have some moral obligation to put it back together - but its not all that clear-cut, considering the sectarian makeup of the population, and their various animosities.
