How goes Kate? Long time no see lol.

I tried for expedite and got a result back within a week. My request was rejected.

They might consider it for medical reasons or anything really urgent.

What is your Case Complete (CC) Date?

Hey vrace how are you doing 🙂.

I haven’t got my case complete date yet, I’m waiting for them still to send my permanent residence card, it’s gone into decision made which means they’re making it and they say to give them within four weeks to send it out. Such a pain.

Now I am thinking more about maybe transferring my case to the UK to do this I need to fill out an I-824 form but I’m reading on the Internet that this process it’s self is taking 4 to 6 months maybe longer, or is it?? I just don’t know how can I find out ?  There is not much on the Internet that pertains to my situation !

Why do you apply for Consulate Processing in Montreal where the wait time in London is several months faster than in Canada? If you applied for interview in London you will get it way before September, most embassies or consulates only take 2-3 weeks to schedule interview but Montreal is taking 6 months for employment based

Lombardi how do I do this? My case is not yet complete at the NVC is this an advantage to getting my interview at the UK? because I’m reading at the moment the process to get the i-824 form (changes to pplication form) reviewed it is taking six months. Or  Will I need to fill out this form if my case isn’t complete does this make sense?  My understanding of this is not very good. Is it because I wrote on my DS 260 -my Canadian address that it will automatically be sent to the Montreal consulate? Is it because my case is not yet complete it will be easier for me to simply just change the address on my DS 260?  Or do I still need to do the I-824 form.  I did ask him NVC a few weeks back but they were very vague!

thank you!

Hi Lombardi! Thanks for all the helpful info.  The reason why I am not applying for it to be transferred to the UK is because I’ve been reading that to submit and for them to review I-824 form (for them to transfer my case) to the UK is taking about 4 to 6 months in itself. This is what I’ve read on the Internet, maybe I should do some more research into this. But as I know it this process is taking upwards of four months do you or anyone else know differently!?

Hi Kate,

Based on my personal experience, it took about 1.5 month with NVC to change my IV processing location from Abu Dhabi to Montreal. I had to do that since I moved to Canada and has no valid residency permit in UAE.

Good Luck.

Thank you! How do I actually make the request? Could this affect my case? someone told me that this is referred to ‘Consulate shopping’ and is a bad idea? :(

Am I at an advantage because my case is not yet complete?

This will not affect your case at all. I was also worried to do this request. My attorney filled a request to NVC to change my IV processing location to Montreal. We had submitted the request along with the supporting documents showing that I have legal status to live and work in Canada. We did this step before sending the required documents to NVC. So it was also before CC.

Good Luck

@Kate8kate0 I transferred my case to Montreal too but it was way before civil documents. I did the same thing as HH2018 and got a new case # in a week. You can always call NVC to ask for an estimated timeline as they are usually pretty good giving out estimates (sometimes quite conservative). I think, though not certain, that it's even better to do this before CC because they might just do it once as they review everything. I know if your files are already with Montreal (usually after the interview is scheduled), it will take months to transfer as it involves physical handling of documents. Hope this helps.

Thank you burbur and hh2018 for these it’s reassuring, I’m  really in two minds about all this at the moment it’s quite stressful I’ve been thinking about it all day. I need to weigh up my options whether to fly the three of us to London for an interview or wait it out here and hope I get lucky with a sooner appointment in montreal.   Oh the stress :(

Yes you are right, if it already document completed at NVC then no point changing now, I made the same mistake as you, I have another citizenship and Canadian PR but I selected Canada at the consulate post to save the air ticket fare thinking it will be quick to do consulate processing in Canada. It is a huge mistake as it delayed my whole process by 6 months as the consulate office in my home country schedule employment based visa within 2 weeks of CC whereas Canada taking 6-8 months and the backlog is growing even faster each day. I guess at this time nothing you can do except for waiting because if you initiate the change in consulate now it will take another 4-6 months for NVC to review the documents again

But my case is not yet complete... they are waiting for me to send in copy of my lost replacement pr card. So case not complete yet, will it take 4 months for them to review?

Thanks!

generally NVC is faster than USCIS, I-824 is processed by USCIS and it takes a few months. I am not sure if changing embassy required a new I-824 or maybe just need to inform NVC.  Montreal is the slowest in entire world for processing consulate cases for employment based green card so at the time of submission if I had known this I would have just select the embassy at the country of my citizenship instead of Canada. My friend who applied after me several months had the visa way before I was scheduled for the interview and it was the most stressful time in my life

yes the best is call them and ask to change consulate, you can ask how long it takes. Since you do not have a job in Canada and you have citizenship in UK then it makes sense to do in UK, but ask them about the process
