But the Tiers were done away with a few months back, so we should all be on equal footing!

From what I understand, the claim that the tier system is scrapped is based on this:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/News/visas-news/visa-services-operating-status-update.html

Although local conditions and restrictions at individual consular posts may continue to fluctuate, the guidance to posts for the prioritization of consular services during the pandemic issued in November 2020 has been rescinded.”

The issue with this is that the direction for  Tiered approach was issued on April 30 2021, NOT November 2020.

The notice is being quoted is not referring to the tiered approach guidance.

The order of prioritisation that was issued on November 2020, was that, consulates are to prioritise immigrant visas over non immigrant visas. With Biden’s proclamation regarding resumption of safe international travel, DoS has rescinded this requirement of consulates to prioritise immigrant visas over non immigrant visas, and left it to their discretion, depending on local conditions.

Unfortunately DoS rescinding THIS guidance of prioritisation is bad news for ALL immigrant visa applicants, as consulates can decide to focus more time and effort into non-immigrant visas now.

So far, Montreal doesn’t seem to be doing that though, as we are seeing a steady clearance of immigrant case backlog. Hopefully this continues and EB backlog will be reduced as well.

Hopefully!  Fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed indeed! Coz the last 3 rounds captured IR/CR DQs spread over 3 months within one batch of ILs. In this round, IR/CR only has December DQs to work through (those before December already have an IL and those after December aren’t DQed yet) Hopefully MTL realizes that they’ve finally run out of IR/CR folks to schedule and gets to our files.

Since we don’t have December DQ on tracker, tagging @dcisw and @hesh (can’t find user handle) for any updates, by chance
