Hi everyone.

I live in NJ but work in NY. My wife lives and works in NJ.

I want to change my address to NY to take advantage of reduced tuition for universities. Either way, I spend most of my days there.

From the change of address, I have to wait 1year to take advantage of this.

However, in December 2018 i wil be able to apply for removal of conditions. I don't know if i should.change my address after applying (which i rather not.because it means waiting more for me to start university) or change the address now and hope uscis wont say anything why we have two different addresses. I can change.her address too, but I rather not.

Any advice is welcome.

If you change your address after filing, you still have to notify USCIS that your address has changed.  Either you and your wife have the same address, or you don't.  Either way, USCIS needs to have the correct addresses, and if one or both persons change an addresses, the address needs to be updated with USCIS.

Thank you. The question of reporting the change to uscis is not so important as i plan to do that. All you said is report the change to uscis. My concern is when to change it and how will this impact my application if i change before or after.  Say i change my address now in June 2018, and in december 2018 i apply to remove conditions, will this impact my application?

Can i list my mailing address where my wife is(nj)  and not my new ny address?

I have changed our address before while waiting approval.for first green card and it was not.an issue, but i havent before actually sending the application.

Thank you

Basically you're wanting to commit fraud by using a NY address to deceive a university so you can get in state tuition....

Or are you actually residing in NY?

I spend in NY 12-14hr per day and sometimes dont even go back to NJ but sleep in NY . I don't see how that is fraud considering i spend most of my time here and not in NJ. NJ and NY  can be crossed in half an hour to 40min from where i am. And i consider myself more of a NY resident than NJ.

Do you own an apt or business in NY? Do you have a legal physical address? It doesn't particularly matter what you consider yourself, it matters what the school considers you.   Unless you actually have NY residency what you're doing is fraud. Now if you're okay with that then fine; obviously there's no skin off my back!  But call it like it is.  You can have your legal physcial address in NY and mailing address in NJ..  But you'll be explaining to the USCIS the ins and outs of what you're doing and why.  If you dont feel comfortable doing that, why are you comfortable doing the act in the first place?

If you actually move you have 10 days to inform the USCIS of the move after relocating. You can even live apart from a spouse and get through ROC provided you have a good reason and can document that your relationship is genuine.  I get that its probably a better school... etc etc etc... so what you want.  I've been told more than once I follow rules to a fault.  Lol

I don't. I reside in NJ, thats my primary place of residence, but i also spend days/nights at my other place. That is why i asked how to approach this problem. I have decided to wait, as my status is more important.

Makes sense.  I get what you were trying to do. I know people that do it so their kids can attend better schools too. But as LPR we have to be careful.  Best of luck in your future.   At least you're young enough to attend more schooling. :)
