  That's how it went down for most indentured servants. Don't know about your ancestors obviously, some came here against their own free will, but the people in here saying indentured servants = slaves are way off base. Indentured servants for the most part came to America by choice, and had a contract specifying how long they were required to work off that debt.

England filled up prisons with debtors and then made them go to Georgia or remain in Jail. Agree not exactly the same as being sold into slavery by fellow black people,  Granted I know people from Africa are not black..but still. Point is Black people are not the only group that has ever been used as slaves

It’s Hollywood.  She spoke out as a strong conservative in a liberal-run arena.  Not that I agree with what she said, but even had she said it without the racist slant to it, I am sure she would have not been in favor given the venue.
