This reminds me of when we were kids and planned to all drop our pencils at 1:17pm. We thought, 'that'll show 'em!'

i agree...exxon makes $2500 a second..they are not worried

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

What we should do instead of meaningless gestures like this is put more effort into finding alternative renewable forms of energy.

well, we have to go to work...so we need gasoline ...sorry

I don't know why that would mean people can't car pool, use public transportation, or buy more fuel efficient vehicles.

I have an answer for #2 and 3. Public transportation is not available everywhere. The area where I live is a good example. More fuel efficient vehicles are expensive - I would love to get a hybrid car, but I have to wait till they become more affordable.

Car pool - sure, why not :)

Gas prices in the SF Bay Area are among the highest in the nation, but I doubt it'll make me stop buying gas.

My area is the same. Public transportation in my area is both limited and inconvenient.

I'm not saying buy a new more efficient car today. I'm saying when you would normally replace your car replace it with a more efficient model. I can't afford to replace my 22 city MPG car right now either but when I do replace it and when my wife and I get a car for her we'll definitely put a priority on a high MPG when making the purchase.

I try to car pool with friends on weekends. Can't do it with work though.

Meanwhile, the net PROFIT of Exxon Mobil was 10 times bigger than the gross of Intel. Would that money be best spent in the US?

Perhaps not, but it sure would be nice if the oil companies at least had the decency

to pay for the wars the US is fighting for them in the Middle East, and not have the

taxpayer foot the bill.

and, another thing they don't tell you much... the total greenhouse emmisions from biofuels ....... drumroll..... ZERO. ZIP. NADA. NOTHING. The plant locks away all the carbon as its growing. When you burn it, the net difference is 0. zero emmisions. They don't talk about that one much.

Ethanol is CH3CH2OH which then the carbon has to turn in to carbon dioxide. There will also be some NOx gases because nitrogen in the air and it will get converted in the engine chamber.

yes ... exactly the same CO2 that the plant took OUT of the atmosphere when it grew. The net result is ZERO. Petroleum is CO2 thats been locked away. Biofuel taken CO2 that was floating around a few months prior.

So, yes, biofuels release greenhouse gasses, that is true, but a horribly incomplete and skewed.

Also ethanol because of its water content makes it a lot less powerful thus getting much less miles per gallon

Ethanol has to go thru alot of refinement. It takes alot of energy just to remove the last 1% of water from

Because of the water content it will shorten many components of the car. Also its heavier than gasoline in the tank.

Biodiesel is good for the landfields, but wont make much a dent in greenhouse gases.

I like the fact that garbage, plastics etc. can be put into a crack furnace and turned into oils that can be used a fuels.

The Chinese are working on liquid coal, that will be similar to diesel fuel.

If everyone used it it, it would make a dent in greenhouse gasses. Diesel is not so popular here, but it is in Europe. Biodiesel is not as powerful as petroleum diesel, either - only about 98% of the power. However, it is grown here, it is completely clean, and the technology is extremely promising. Ethanol isn't ideal, but it is FAR better overall than gasoline. The energy you complain about is energy available FROM THE BIOFUEL.

There is no doubt that being able to grow your own fuel locally is absolutely within our national security interests - both in terms of securing access to fuel but also in maintaining a healthy economy. The environment totally aside, these ought to be enough for the MILITARY to insist on biofuel programs.

AND, once there is enough biofuel in production, prices will drop. It can be made by small businesses who will keep the majors honest. Can't say that about petroleum.

Your absence runs through me like a needle
