Each???

Not each, from what I hear on these comments it’s around 700$ at the most for insurance. My parents are gonna be 50 years old by the time they can come. I would rather deal with that than be separated from family. I can always get my dad a job in our company and open an Etsy shop for my moms business, she’s really crafty. So in case they need to work we could do that.

OP, while I believe most people's comments are truly trying to ensure you are prepared for the expenses. I for one commend you.

IMHO, the majority of American's do not take care of their parents. It may be costly and difficult at times but good on you for sacrificing for them as I am sure they made sacrifices for you.

BTW - my employer will also let me add my parents to my insurance if they are my dependents per IRS regulations.

Thanks that’s real encouraging. I have 5 months before I apply for naturalization. [...] I don’t know where 3 years to be eligible comes from either.

Please update your profile. :)  thank you for being current on your timeline.

You're only in the AOS phase. You have more than 3 years until you are eligible for citizenship. By then there is a good chance that the IR-5 (parents of USC) visa category will have been scrapped.

Check OP's timeline. :)

50 is a big difference, they have 15 years or so of working life in front of them, get jobs with benefits etc etc.

Well that makes a big difference as well, if they can work for at least 10 years then they can get social security/Medicare etc and that will help a lot with the sometimes very steep old age related health costs.

its very unusual to see such young parents being sponsored!  If you’d mentioned the ages upfront you would probably have got some quite different responses. I know a lot of people around that age whose kids are still in elementary and middle school!

$400 for older people for health insurance? That would be a dream. I am 28, in fully perfect health and have the cheapest crappiest insurance with the highest possible deductible of over $7000 and pay $350 a month.

My mom will be 64 next year and my father recently passed so she will be on a plan by herself next year. She is looking at the cheapest plans being something like $1200 a month for just herself on the ACA.

If you can't put them on the employer plan (which it seems many say you can not), I would SERIOUSLY look at the implications of bringing your parents here. The health system is NO JOKE. I'm not sure why people want to bring older people here. At that time, we hope to move back to my husband's country where they have normally priced health care.

I am 28 years old and my insurance is 80$/month. Which covers my weight loss doctor and my copay is 10$ for primary and 30$ for specialist with no deductible. Try to get with an employer that will provide you with insurance-  it makes a huge difference.

The reason I would want to bring older people here is, well I don’t know, there is a war in their country!? And it’s so corrupt that in their country they send heathy people to go through chemo. And another good reason is cause I love my parents and want to take care of them.
