This case is close to home... someone I know was robbed by these boys, which led to the murder of Officer Caprio. They will likely be called to testify.

However, there's one big glaring problem with this case aside from the millions of questions I have (because of knowing some circumstances here I can't talk about.. let's just say these boys were the worst and dumbest criminals ever), it's overcharging by the DA. There's no doubt that the 16 year old struck and killed Caprio, and he admitted that. However, I see problems with charging murder in the 1st. They are going to have to prove he intentionally ran over her. There are plenty of witnesses on the scene that I know won't be able to say this was the case for certain. The boy's lawyers are some of the best in the city, and they will make this into a big deal. They will say that he panicked and tried to flee when he saw her pull her gun, and didn't intentionally mean to strike her... just that he struck her unintentionally. Proving that he was just trying to get away is easy... proving that he ran over her with malice will be hard. Additionally, the other boys were hiding out in one of the houses they had robbed at the time, yet they are charged with the same crime. I don't see how this 100% sticks. Maybe this is hardball for a plea deal, but knowing those lawyers... they may not bite. There is sadly, another case very similar... and due to overcharging, the criminal was found not guilty of murder in that manner. We all want justice for Officer Caprio (her viewing starts tonight), but I'm afraid there's a risk it won't come out how people hope.
