I've read another thread regarding this but I just wanted to get some other opinions.

I'm pretty sure I'm just going to send a color copy of my marriage license and bring my personal "original" with me for my interview.

In the instructions for the I-485 it simply says to include a copy. Any suggestions?

Thanks :D

A photocopy is fine.

However you need a photocopy of the marriage certificate, not the marriage license. Is this what you have? Usually the license is what you take to the wedding with you, the certificate is an official document that shows your marriage was registered and will usually be called a "Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate".

I know some states (and people) muddle up the language, I just want to make sure you have the right document in hand.

Ah my mistake I meant to say "Certificate"

I do have the Certificate signed by the Pastor who married us.

Thank you!

Another question..

Should I copy the back? There isn't anything on it.

And now that I'm thinking about it, my copy of the Certificate doesn't have a seal or anything on it. It does say "original" on the bottom. Do I need a copy with a seal on it?

Is it certified by the local county clerk/registrars office, or did you get that on your wedding day?

Probably should, I'm thinking what you have is not the "Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate". You should probably contact the registrars/clerk's office where you were married. Where abouts where you married?

We were married in Pittsburgh.

The copy that I have we got on our wedding day.

I'm pretty sure I have to go down to the Marriage Records Dept and get an official copy.

Unless you were married in a court house, I believe you need to apply for the Certified Copy of the Marriage certificate.
