hi everyone ,

My USC wife lives with me abroad, as a part of showing intention to reestablish domicile she needs to open a bank account online.

we've tried several banks but they all required some ID ( Driving license or state ID ) which she doesn't have any of them at the moment.

so if anyone please can help us to open a bank account easily without requiring ID I would really be appreciated. if it's a must to have an ID, can she get a state Id from any website or something and mail it to where we live  ( like birth certificate I know some people can get the original birth certificate from some website )?

and guy's you would  probably say why wouldn't she go there to do that, well she's pregnant and I can't put her on a plane it's too risky.

Appreciate your cooperation.

Not sure how we can help..

You honestly can't open a bank account without some sort of personal ID.

Pretty sure the first step for your wife would be to acquire some American ID card. State ID or Driving License or something.

Not sure what you mean with ordering ID online.

I honestly don't think that is possible.  I have opened accounts online in the US, but I had to provide copies of valid IDs.  As far as issuing state IDs, you have to be physically present to get them as well as having evidence to verify residence in that state such as utility bills, etc.

You should look for other ways to show intent for domicile.

Well, birth certificate isn't the same as ID....

You can't really do much with birth certificate - like open bank account or take loans. If you have someone else ID, you can do more damage to that person. So ID are more security risk and I doubt they will send them to anyone abroad...

Ask the bank about a w8-ben. You open the account and they can be added on as a non-resident alien.  After arrival then you use a w9 with ssn to change it over to a resident.  Your spouse will need a passport for this process and it can serve as their ID.

Does your wife has an old expired id?

Try the DMV website, I managed to renew state id online for my husband a few years ago. However they only will mail it to a US address, (and it has to be the same as the old ID)

If everything else fail, maybe use other method to establish domicile, like steps you take to move back, quotation from moving company, signing a lease, emails inquiring about places to stay in the US? Make sure to file taxes even though she's outside the country.

There are other ways to show intent to re-establish domicile. What are yoir plans for when you move? Where do you plan to live? You say your wife is pregnant - has she researched daycare providers in the city you intend to move to for when she goes back to work? Has she applied for jobs? If you have other children, have you researched schools in the district where you intend to live?

Have you tried Capital One 360 online banking? I opened up an account with them online and it was easy! I believe I just used my SSN. It's been a while, so I don't remember exactly all the docs needed. Worth a try!

Showing attempts to create a US bank account may help show intent to establish US domicile, but they will probably want to see more than that. If anybody could just make a bank account from abroad without a current ID and have that carry much weight, the domicile issue wouldn't be very common. Showing intent to establish US domicile is about the totality of the circumstances...be sure to provide other good evidences (whether or not you do get a US bank account opened).
