Hi everyone, just needed an idea on how to go on things. I am on K1 visa and already married here in US. I went to Social security to get a number. Just brought my marriage license and passport for documents but unfortunately they can’t process it coz the stamp in my passport is about to expire in a week. What should i do? Would the I 94 suffice even if it will expire in less than a week? Any idea is well appreciated. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️

If your I94 will expire, you will not be able to receive SSN.

Once you'll get your EAD - then you can take that and based on that they will process your SSN.

 

Once you file for AOS and include petition for EAD and AP - you should get the EAD (work permit) in about 3 to 6 months.

 

No idea if they can refuse you when I94 is so close to expire. Make sense that they can do that.

The SSN guide here on VJ states " Many SSA offices will not allow you to file for a SSN if your I-94 is about to expire (generally 14 days prior
to the expiration on your I-94)."

@Roel is correct.  You will probably have to wait until you get your EAD.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yup, you need 14 days of legal status remaining to apply for a Social Security card. That window has now passed. The next window is when you get an EAD (or green card).
