Hello , everyone ..  I am new here .. sorry may I ask your help?

I applied for my  Cr Visa using my husband's surname. This is different than the surname on my passport and all my Chinese documents. My current surname was mentioned on the application as an alternate. Will this be a problem?

I worry I will get the visa  which shows  the married name then I cant  go through the check of Ameircan  customs.

What shall I do ,who has the same problem? It is impossible to update my passport name  because in China ,we have HUKOU and ID , and passport , hard to change  those names ,because we have many documents related those ID ,HUKOU ...something.

thanks for your  answer  very much.

She will need 1) the passport, 2) the visa, and 3) documentation showing the legal name change that connects the other two documents. Typically this would be the marriage certificate, although I can't speak for what passes in China.

Visa will be in passport name

Green card will be in Visa name

If you want your married surname on your green card without paying an extra $450 to do so, change your passport before interview.

You can always pay the extra and change it afterwards though.

Not everything is easy.  Change the name in your passport to your current name.  Do whatever it takes, as you will have a Chinese passport until you become a US Citizen.  That's going to take at least three years after you start living in the USA.  Citizenship is optional, so it could be never.

On the other hand it is not customary for a Chinese woman to change her name at marriage.  If you want to keep your birth name, you can do so.  In that case, do nothing now, and when the time case file gets to NVC (after petition approval) just notify them you are continuing the process with your birth name.

Your next "free" opportunity to change your name would be when you become a US Citizen.  Be aware also that international airline tickets must also be in the passport name.  Even domestic US flights require ID in the name on the ticket.  Make your name decision, and do what is needed to facilitate that decision.
