We’re up about .50 since January, over .30 in the past few weeks,

The economy was roaring 2 years ago and gas was under $2 gallon here. There goes that extra $20 Trump gave you in your paycheck.

This all to cause and effect really, now it is coming back in line to where it should be. It originally got forced lower because OPEC(Saudis specifically) tried to counter fracking and bet against them by pumping more and lowering the price of oil in hopes it would bankrupt those companies. 

 

What happened in reality was that some companies just put some wells and projects on hold while at the the same time investing in better drilling technology. Now what used to cost the fracking companies maybe $50-60 dollars a barrel to break even is now more like  $35-45 a barrel to break even.

 

OPEC finally decided to start cutting back pumping in the beginning of the year and the oil glut is subsiding. Thus the process is going up.

I don’t know about American drivers but economically struggling Saudis are happy to see the oil prices are finally going up.
