I was with my most recent employer for 7.5 years as a Recruiter. Prior to that I spent 3 years in the same role with a different company, so I have 10.5 years of straight work experience in the same function. I was let go from my most recent job on February 28, 2018 when new management came in. I had 2 months of vacation saved up so I took some time for myself, visited my fiancee, and then began looking at employment opportunities. This week I will start a new job as Recruiter. Does anyone have any first hand experience on whether or not starting a new job immediately before you file your I-129F has any influence on the process?

Hi! If you're the beneficiary, it doesn't matter at all. If you're the USC, just make sure you meet the poverty guideline with the new annual salary and you're good.

I'm the USC. What is the poverty guideline? I make good money so I am sure there is no problem.

For K1 you must meet 100% of the guideline shown for your state: https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines

If you have a good pay then no need to worry :)

It is so sad that the poverty threshold is so low. Thanks for the information! All good.

It may be low for you, but my hubby didn't meet it for 2 years after deciding we wanted to apply so we had to wait. It does get in the way for many people.

I am very happy that it didn't stop you from getting married! I simply meant that if that Poverty Threshold was also the threshold for being able to get public assistance it is very sad. I apologize if it came across negative.

Haha, nothing would've! We were LDR for 5 years, so 2 more was piece of cake :innocent: And don't worry about it, i know what you mean. Despite his low income at the time, he was still denied food stamps, so we've dealt with both sides of the coin. if you ask me it should vary at least by state, as cost of living varies greatly.

Absolutely! I live in California and I think if someone makes twice the poverty level they would still be in poverty.

And 5 Years! Oh my! We are on going on 2 years knowing each other, and about 8 months since meeting in person. We meet up every 4 months for one week. Video chat every morning and night. And it is so hard to not be together. But it makes being together that much more special knowing we had to work for it!
