Me and my husband started the process of my AOS last month and yesterday I received a letter from a old credit card account and I am being sued by the debt collectors. Will this affect my application in any way I’m very worried.

Ok, I do have one question for you before I will comment. Are you sure that you are actually being sued in court or is someone just threatening to sue you if don't pay them the money, also how long ago are we talking about???? One scam going on is people will call you up about a delinquent account you had and threaten to take out papers on you THAT DAY if you do not start making payments on it. 9 times out of 10 it is false and just a scam. I actually got called about an old account that I brought up to date and paid off before they called me saying that I need to start sending them money or they would take papers out on me that day.

It really should not affect your AOS at all in all reality.

Thank you so much for your reply. It was an actual law office/bankruptcy agency saying that is hould contact them within 21 days and that the best thing to do i file for bankruptcy which sounds ridiculous to me, as the only reason i have still yet to pay ot off I because I don’t have a job... it is no huge amount either its not more than $500.

These “actual law offices” involved in this kind of thing are often predatory, and you can tell that by when they try to scare you. As they have done. Do your research before responding to them in any way.

I have to agree with @SusieQQQ on this it does sound like they are being predatory to me. They count on a person's fear to pay them the money they supposedly owe. Especially if it's that much money most places will just write it off and bilk your credit for it. Do you remember the law firm at all if you pm me I can do some research for you on them and if they are real. When was the last time you paid on that credit card?

Thank you everybody for the quick responses it calmed us down a lot. I will not respond to the letter as it actually seems like they’re advertising their services that way, I’m definitely not filing for bankruptcy for a $500 debt.
