We got our visa in hand today (approved on Tuesday). Wondering what the next steps are before marriage. I saw someone say we should go to the Social security office after he arrives in the states to register? This isn't on the list of steps in the K-1 guide. Anyone know anything about this? We're all set to pick up our Marriage license as soon as he arrives (next tuesday).  And then on to the next set of paperwork once we're married....

Here is a website of mine that address each of the next steps once you go through your POE. I address SSN, Names, Driver License etc.

No the interview does not need to be scheduled or completed by that date. You actually have one year to process your interview application. Your Embassy will move your date forward in 4 month increments till you have exhausted the one year.

Thank you, I dont remember reading this info anywhere. Regardless will have an interview scheduled asap.

Hello everyone! I have a question about I-134.

My fiancé's friend agreed to be a co-sponsor for I-134 who passes 125% of Poverty Lines (His income is around 40K and he does not have any dependent). I am going to have an interview in Tokyo, and they said in the embassy instruction that we need to provide at least two or more following documents along with I-134:

  • Copy of his/her latest federal income tax return
  • Letter from his/her employer
  • Statement from an officer of the bank regarding his/her account, the present balance
  • Any other evidence to establish financial ability

So, the co-sponsor prepared his last 3 year federal tax returns, and he is also going to get the letter from his employer.

My question is about Page 3, Part 3, Item#4 and 7.a.

1. Does he HAVE TO answer to #4 "Balance of all my savings and checking account in United States--based financial institution" OR can he write "N/A"?

2. Again, does he have to answer to #7.a. "I have life insurance...." or can we write "N/A" ?

Thank you so much for your help!

I'm not trying to rain on your parade but a co-sponsor that is a relative like a sibling or parent(s) gives you a much better chance of approval. Not all Embassy's approve Co-sponsors. To get a better response on the procedure and the likelihood of being approved with what you are offering above, I suggest you go over to the sub-forum for Japan and ask someone who is knowledgeable and has history or has been here long enough that he has history with this type of item. I see you have posted a couple of times so I don't have to provide the link. Just my opinion.

That's why I am here to help. A lot information is here but it's like finding a needle in a haystack. Most questions that ppl have, have been asked a million times before by someone else. So once I have an answer I usually file it in "one note" to return to when it is asked again and then I share it with someone. This items happens a lot because of the TB testing in the Philippines which can cause ppl to go beyond their initial NOA2 date. They can be delayed a month or up to 6 months if they have TB and need to take the prescription regiment. So that's the remedy.

Hello everyone!

I am just posting my experience and frustration thru this process.. My NOA 1-6/14/17, RFE 1/12/18, NOA 2- 4/19/18. All along I understand my petition is one of many so I must have patirnce with the processing time, but when you have a gut feeling go by it do not let it pass by.

As of today, I was told at NVC they have yet to receive my petition. They told me it should be rather quicker than an 130 since its a 129F and they do not process it instead they electronically send the petition to the country I filed it for. Ok understandable! But I also spoke with a Tier 2 Rep at USCIS and they could not explain where my petition ended up. It has been 6 weeks and I am up in the air without any proper information given as to what will happen next!!! So for anyone that reads this and it applies try to find your answers do not wait call and exhaust all your options.

I am very grateful to those who have one way or another helped and guided me thru this its highly appreciated, but for those on here who are self centered and would not help others don't worry Karma will take care of u. Its so wonderful to help others and share the good n bad outcomes together! I do not know but evertime I help someone is brings me joy ... Not the same for other people

Enjoy ur day and congratulations to all those who have gotten finished and are traveling to be with their significant other.. Blessings to all 😘

Unfortunately, a family member is not the option for us:/ I messaged you about someone dropping out as a co sponsor a few weeks ago, and that was the only choice we had as a family member..

I know that embassy in Tokyo accepts a co sponsor. I emailed bad asked them before. But I'll ask on Japan forum to see if anyone had an issue by having a friend as a co sponsor.

Also I'll get some proof that my fiance and our co sponsor have a long history of friendship!

Thank you for your advice:)

Depends on whether or not you are going to try to reschedule your interview to an earlier date....

The clock starts to ticking on the validity length of your visa once you get the medical done. You'll have one year from the date of the medical to apply for AOS and if you anticipate any problems getting your visa right away it would be wise to getting it done as close to your interview date as possible.

Yes that makes sense, thank you. And is it possible to change the date to an earlier date? How can that happen after it told me the earliest booking is July 26th, June 28th was available 4 hours ago though. It happened fast. 😊

You keep checking for cancellations...

And yes, the 28th was a cancellation I'm guessing? Did you scoop it up?
