Write my future name on the application?

Hi!

I'm getting married in a couple of days, and I have filled in all the documents needed to stay in ahead of time. But when they ask me to write down my legal name I want to write down the name I will have AFTER the wedding. The name I am changing TO. But will it not be my legal name after I've gotten married and filled in my name change on the marriage certificate? 
Should I write down my old legal name on the forms, as it is in my passport, and change my name at Social Security office after I have gotten married? 

Or will it be too much confusion for USCIS if I write down my future name?

I would write down your legal name as of the date you are signing the documents. It's not good to put anything else. You should be filling it out with information as it is the day you fill it out and sign it, as you are attesting that all the information is true and accurate. It would not be true or accurate if you put a name that is not yet legally yours.

 

You can wait to sign and submit the documents, or you can send an update at a later time / fix the issue at interview time.

Hi,

Write down the name you will use after marriage, as it's the name that will appear on your EAD and Green Card. This is common, USCIS knows what to do with it. Make sure you have a SS card in your maiden name before you marry, and after you get your EAD you can update it with your married name. Good luck!

The marriage certificate is a legal name change document. Use the name you want the green card issued in on the application. If that’s the married name, that’s fine. You can update other documentation as needed and possible as time goes by, but the married name is a valid legal name...you just have to use it.
