It's a large private company, so they can afford it and it's their choice. A mom and pop shop probably couldn't as restrooms do have a cost (things like toilet paper, soap, utilities, and etc.) that would eat up their profit margin. Those who feel strongly about this could always open their home up to the homeless.

At least there are plenty of people who will allow the Homeless to use their Bathrooms in Seattle etc.

So your contention is that these shelters started by religious organizations are  only open a few times a year?

Nope, didn't say that at all.

As to why homelessness persists, you may want to look at the Left Wing political policies.  Seattle has a big homeless problem mostly from outsiders coming there to take advantage of all the leftist giveaways.

Really, I thought it was because the housing market has become grossly over inflated, with many being priced out of the market for renting or buying.

Should be fun, no doubt much more to follow.

The employees should be summarily fired for failing to follow corporate directives and for questioning wise leadership.

The objecting customers should be banned from the premises whether they order coffee or not.

The premises MUST be reserved for users of free Wi-Fi and for homeless bathroom-users.

Corporate has spoken.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

If the housing market is overpriced for ones budget, why stay, or better yet, why move there?

Starbucks employees, customers express concern over new policy: 'I can't see how this will work'

Should work just like the hundreds of other places that don't care if someone uses the restroom or not. I'm not sure what you guys think the appeal is of having a public restroom. They have existed for decades. You have probably used a few in your lifetime and I'd wager you never considered moving in. Other people won't either.

Of course no one has any problem with someone using the bathroom. The problem is that I dont know any restaurant in the world that lets people just come in and hang out.

I think I will go to Longhorn tonight and tell the hostess. I dont want to order I just want to occupy your table for a few hours .

I just got back from Chattanooga TN.  Every place I went had a sign, bathroom for paying customers only.

Starbucks is now allowing people to use its restrooms and sit in its cafes and patios even if they do not buy anything.

The coffee giant on Saturday announced its new policy, which says that customers, including those who did not make a purchase, can come to its cafes and stay — as long as they behave properly.

Under the new companywide policy, people who come to Starbucks locations without buying anything are considered customers and can stay. If someone becomes a safety threat, Starbucks employees should call 911. Depending on the circumstances, a disruptive customer can also be banned from Starbucks stores.

“We are committed to creating a culture of warmth and belonging where everyone is welcome. . . .  We want our stores to be the third place, a warm and welcoming environment where customers can gather and connect,” the company said in a statement, referring Starbucks’ claim to fame as a “third place between work and home” where people can spend their time.

I think it's great, it's his company and he can do what he wants...in the article it states why he came to this decision, good for him! To me this is great policy which he is trying to shut down any type of discrimination. He obviously has done a great job with Starbucks, even with the controversial "red cups" for Christmas that stirred up some controversy. In the end he just wants everyone's business where ever they are and what ever culture they are. By doing this he has ruffled the feathers of lots of Americans who get offended so easily.
