Hello all,

I have a random question regarding ROC. Now that I am reading all the info people post here I realize I sent only a few months of jointly bank statements and that I should have sent the statements for the entire duration of my marriage and I am very worried.

my husband and I married at the courthouse and a few months later in a catholic church. Do any of you know if religious wedddings have more weigth in terms of good evidence ? We also own a house together.

Thanks for any input.

I honestly doubt they care if you marry or not at a church. It does not hurt for sure. We did not marry at any church and I got my ROC approved few years ago. But we sent enough evidence in the packet. Quarterly bank statements, wedding/trips pictures, utility bills in both or my name, etc. If you sent other good evidence then you should be fine.

It makes no difference. Married is married...whether you do a religious ceremony or not is not important for immigration purposes.

Religious marriages compared to courthouse marriages make no difference for evidence purposes. I got married in the courthouse and we had no problem with my wife's ROC.

catholic priests are usually licensed, like ship, airplane captains, judges, mayors,  by our phil. jurisprudence to marry or wed their faithful, which makes marriages performed by them legal. it is as legal as those conducted by the judges in courts.

You might get an RFE, because the instructions for the ROC clearly state that you must include documentation from the date of your marriage onward.  Start putting together a COMPLETE packet now - evidence of your financial co-mingling from the beginning of your marriage.  If you don't get an RFE, you are very lucky.  If you DO get an RFE, you will have all the evidence collected and ready to go.  If you DO get an RFE, read it very carefully and make sure you include exactly what they ask for.  You can add extra, but make sure the exact info is there first.

Best of luck!

We didn't have any joint bank accounts, as a couple we keep our finances separate. 2nd marriage for both of us. The officer was happy with that explanation, a joint lease, joint bills, hubby & his kids on my health insurance and hubby on my life insurance. We also brought photos, cards family had sent us and we married in a registry office with no family present (we eloped).

Many people just get married at the courthouse, or get married at the courthouse and have a traditional wedding later as you have. It makes no difference - legally married is legally married no matter where it takes place. My fiancé and I are doing the same - getting legally married for AOS purposes, and our traditional wedding is in October several months later.

As far as proof of the marriage - that's more so things like both names being on your lease/mortgage/etc., both names on utility bills, if you share any bank accounts, shared health/car/etc. insurance, things like that. General evidence of the relationship, such as photos of family/social functions together as a married couple.

Håll ut, y'all.
