So it took 3 months from the date my I-129 was sent until I received the NOA1.

This is such an outlier that I can't even create my VJ timeline because the the web form thinks I must've entered incorrect dates.  I thought the whole point of this thing was to track true wait times no matter how long USCIS is taking to process forms.

It gives me this error message:

ball.gif Time between when a petition (ex: I-129F) was mailed to the USCIS and the NOA1 (Notice of Receipt) may be too long. NOA1s (the date on the form itself) should be within four weeks (max) of the date you originally sent the form to the USCI

What's even funnier is, I'm prerry sure the same date I called the customer service line, was the date of acceptance printed on the I-797.  The representative told me I should write a letter.  In addition, he said my case was transferred to a different service center than was printed on the NOA1.

I had even hired an experienced legal representative to prepare my application.  They made a phone call and wrote a letter on my behalf.

So I guess we'll be waiting at least 7 more months, when it's the middle of winter.  My fiancée has never experienced weather below 50°F.  It will be an interesting transition for her.

Yes, It took 3 months to get the case #.

That’s ok, I’ll try to help to find the date they will consider.

so when you go online it shows you the latest status.

Does it show transferred?

or do you already know “the received date”

Sorry, there was lack of explanation in what I wrote: Sometimes, even if they send the noa1 itself really late, they still register the case with an early receive date. (it is rare but it happens) so If you know the received date (there are ways to know if you don't) you can at least know with which files they may adjudicate it with.

No, it doesn't say the case was transferred.  It just says case was receivwd and that I will receive notice in the mail.  The mailed notice says California service center.  The phone representative says it was transferred to Vermont.

Ok I understand now. Then yes that case received is when your case will be adjudicated with. However, as it is transferred it probably will have different timeline than most people here as many are going to California. you can create the timeline using that received date.

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

We are dealing with the same situation. We have been waiting for that NOA for almost 3 months now. We received our case # on a text message.

We are following our case status online and it says received and then returned.

We have called plenty of times to the office but they just say we have to wait 30 days after requesting the NOA was missing. We have already requested it twice and it seems we would have to do it again and wait 30 more days.

This means the case is pending until we receive the NOA by mail?

Thanks

No, you have the case number you only don't have your hard copy. your case is in line.

Did you check your address with USCIS? It seems like there is a problem with your address. It won't matter much for NOA1 however, it is really important that you can receive mails from them for RFE and NOA2. Some cases don't update online so you may never know even if  you get your approval.

Try to get a tier2, and confirm your address if you didn't do it already. and you can also create an account online and make a correction online.

I received the I-797 about a week after I received the first email.

The date received, 4/23 matches checking status here: https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/mycasestatus.do

After I created an account at https://my.uscis.gov/account/applicant

It says the date submitted is May 9.  There is an option to change Applicant or Petitioner address by entering old and new address.

What does returned mean?  Why would the return it?

Do you have photo copy of your application to check old address?

My fiance moved.  I need to update her address!

I just found out I am having this same issue. I received my NOA with "Receipt" in the notice type column yesterday. The receipt date is 14 May 2018. The petition was sent on 15 February 2018. There is no transfer. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services website shows only the same receipt date. I am also unable to complete a timeline with the same error. I am wondering if there is something I am missing or may have done incorrectly.
